Cause of debris in the fluid of a M5R1 transmission

Put in a rebuild kit. Realize now that I need to replace the shift forks, but the rest looks great. Where could the debris come from?

You might have to try to adjust the freedom of clutch pedal,
The noise during shifting can be adressed to exessive wear clutch parts or again it might be a sign that indicates the not complete enabling the calutch
To find out what is causing the noise, set the parking brake, place the vehicle in neutral and start the engine.
If you hear growling or grinding noises when the clutch is engaged, the cause is the transmission input shaft bearing.
A squealing sound that occurs when the clutch pedal is depressed and held is usually caused by a bad pilot bearing or bushing.
A chirping noise that intensifies when the pedal is slowly depressed would indicate a bad release bearing.
If you hear chirping while idling in neutral and the noise goes away when the pedal is slowly depressed, the fork/pivot ball contact point is making the noise
Hope that helps.
The clutch adjustment procedure you can find at

SOURCE: where is the spot for the transmission fluid? my

Check level on dipstick shown below (bottom middle of picture) with engine running and transmission in park. If low, use a funnel to add fluid down the dipstick tube. Please let me know if you have more questions.

My 1993 Ford Explorer XLT automatic is shifting slowly and sluggishly what may be the problem

A slow and sluggish shift in an automatic transmission can be caused by a variety of issues. Here are some potential causes to consider:
  1. Low Transmission Fluid: A common cause of sluggish shifting is low transmission fluid. Check the fluid level and condition, and top it up or replace it if necessary. Low fluid levels can also indicate a leak in the system.
  2. Worn Transmission Filter: Over time, the transmission filter can become clogged with debris and dirt, which can hinder the flow of fluid and affect the performance of the transmission. Replacing the transmission filter may help improve shifting performance.
  3. Faulty Shift Solenoids: The shift solenoids are responsible for controlling the flow of transmission fluid through the valve body, and if they are damaged or malfunctioning, it can cause slow or sluggish shifting. A professional mechanic can diagnose and replace any faulty shift solenoids.
  4. Malfunctioning Torque Converter: The torque converter is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the transmission, and if it is malfunctioning, it can cause slow and sluggish shifting. A professional mechanic can diagnose and replace any faulty torque converter.
  5. Worn Clutch Plates or Bands: Over time, the clutch plates or bands in the transmission can wear down, causing poor shifting performance. Rebuilding or replacing the transmission may be necessary to resolve this issue.
It's important to have a qualified mechanic diagnose the issue with your Ford Explorer to accurately determine the cause of the slow and sluggish shifting. They can then recommend the appropriate repairs or maintenance to improve the transmission's performance.

1989 Ford F 150 lariat 4x4 pick up pops out of reverse and makes a terrible grinding noise until it's put back in noise is coming from transfer case fluids have been checked and changed no shavings also...

You must have a manual transmission. Rebuild it. synchronizers are bad. The reason for grinding. Then you have worn shift forks. Reason for popping out of gear. Also replace any worn bearings or just get the bearing kit and replace them all, with the races.

2000 Pontiac Montana . Goes into gear hard when it shifts. Has 140000 miles on it.

It sounds like the pressure control solenoid inside the transmission. With that many miles I would suggest going ahead and rebuilding it. You need to remove the transmission from the van anyway to replace the solenoid. I have rebuild several of these, be sure to put in a shift kit, it makes a big difference. I've rebuilt them before and wasn't happy with the way it shifted, so I pull it back out, put in the kit and that did the trick. So, needless to say, I always put the kit in the first time. Although, I do know a guy that changed his filter and added some Lucus oil treatment for the transmission to the new oil, and he says he hasn't had that problem sence........makes me wonder.

Obd11 code p-0751 trans has no reverse stuck in 2nd gear

If this is a manual (5 speed) - you may have a broken shift fork. You'll want to either replace just the shift fork, or (best) - purchase a clutch kit for the truck as well as the shift fork; the kit will come with everything you need to replace the clutch. It is not necessary to replace the clutch components, however it's best to while you're in there, that way you know everything is new and good. Otherwise, after pulling the transmission, and verifying that the shift fork is the issue, then replace the shift fork. (It's best here, to replace the throw-out bearing, (it attaches to the shift fork) as it is most likely damaged.

I have a 2004 Impala that transmission jerks into gears periodically when doing a bit of stopping and starting off. Have talked to other Impala owners, and some have had tranny problems also. It just...

This is common problems to the transmission when the fluid is getting to dirty and the transmission fluid and filter needs to be replaced. The transmission fluid and filter should be replaced every 45,000 miles to ensure there is no dirt causing the shift servos from binding. The other thing to is that when the transmission fluid get's to dirty, the fluid gets thicker. It retains fluid retention which can cause conflicts in the transmission sensors. What your experiencing is, your transmission is not shifting back to first gear and sticking in to 2nd gear. When you get on the gas peddle, the transmission sensors realize that it needs to be in 1st gear, so as the engine's RPM goes up and the transmission drops back to 1st, you get the jerking condition which will in turn cause you a $2,300.00 transmission replacement. For now when starting off from a stop, let the engine creep forward on it's own first to ensure that the transmission has shifted in to 1st gear. Then get on the gas peddle lightly till you have the transmission serviced. $100.00 transmission service is better then $2,300.00 transmission replacement. Good luck and do not have a transmission fluid flush, just filter and fluid replacement.

I put a rebuild kit in a nv4500.all the gears work fine except fourth gear.i put atf+4 fluid in it could that cause a problem

Castrol Syntorq® LT 75w85w full synthetic gear oil is the only factory approved lubricant for NV4500 transmissions. ATF is for automatic transmissions and approved manual transmissions. Drain and flush with the correct oil as soon as possible or you will be rebuilding again soon. The ATF will just cause the transmission to wear out faster and shift oddly in all the gears, it shouldn't have affected only 4th. I'd take it apart again and see if you missed anything or if something else in the transmission is out of spec.

DOES NOT SHIFT AFTER SECOND GEAR. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC. CHANGED TRANS FLUID AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF SHAVINGS.

If the fluid was real dark and the car has shifting problems then the tranny is already cooked.

If it's a manual transmission you may have a bad synchro causing this or a bent shift fork. More likely a bad synchro. You can try rebuilding it but it's likely to not work.

If it's an automatic, just plan on replacing it. We mess with these up and down at the dealership and in the end the labor and parts are just cheaper to replace the tranny with a remanufactured one. Labor for diagnosis is about an hour, and labor to replace it should be about 5 hours.

Good luck.

I have a 2004 mazda rx-8 6 speed manual transmission...i am having a real hard time shifting into gears...sometime it won't even bulge into gear, and that's when i have to use excessive forces just to put...

You need to check the clutch hydraulics i.e. the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder for their function, even if its cable operated try to adjust it so as it opens the clutch fork a little more to allow the clutch plate to be free, thus easy selection of gears.
If this fails thn you will have to replace the pro-kit i.e. clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing.
Hope this helps!
