Sounds like a wheel bearing and or the brake pads are totally gone which is most likely. Change the pads.

Hi,

The trouble codes are for the left front and right front wheel speed sensors. You should open your hood and in front of the engine on the drivers side under the air filter box you will see a silver tube shape object which is the air condition dryer. Look for your main wiring harness that pass near it. The harness can rub on the dryer and cause many different electrical problems including abs problems. If you see the harness rubbing on the dryer you can move the main wiring harness with your hand to see if there are any cut wires. If they are then you will need to repair the wires that are damage and reposition the harness to it will not rub anymore. This is a common problem with the pontiac grand prix.

Good Luck!!

Thanks!!

Have a 2004 gmc yukon getting codes c0040, c0550,c0455,c0296 in the abs computer. Trac and abs light on as well as suspension control.

C0040 - Right Front Wheel Speed Circuit Malfunction
C0550 - ECU Malfunction - internal write / checksum malfunction
C0455 - Either:
  • A bent terminal or poor connection at the SWPS may be one possible cause; or
  • The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) electronic brake control module (EBCM) calibration may be the other possible cause.
C0296 - Transfer Case Delivered Torque for Stability Control System Circuit

What does it mean when stabilitrak and abs light comes on. Once this happen a few minutes later when I brake it makes a grinding noise.

Same as with ALL vehicle problems---
when you have a check engine light on

You stop using it
Check for OBD Codes
Diagnose your codes
Component test-- to find a problem
Make the repair

With or without codes-- you can Google
ABS Braking Systems,Trac Control & many other
abs add-ons-- to learn about them

What about reading your owners manual !!

Fail to see how using a vehicle with
brakes grinding, would be safe

Brakes have to come apart once a year
when you have no problems

Were you able to read the ABS trouble codes? I have pasted the codes below. You might want to check the torque on the wheel bearing bolts and axle nut.

You probably have a problem with one or both of the front brakes - probably a wheel bearing shot and ABS sensor failed or disconnected. I would take to a brake shop immediately, and not attempt a long run with the car.

c0040 indicates right front wheel sensor, so problem is more than likely sensor or wiring to it. c0245 indicates wheel speed sensor frequency error. This confirms wheel sensor or wiring.

97 pontiac grand prix problem with the ABS, low

Get in touch with the "Better Buisines Bureau" or your state "Attorney General". Those people have a way of making dealerships like that listen. I can't believe they are telling you that it's not a safety issue, when the pedal goes to the floor. You could try a different dealer, or go to an independent shop.

Abs and traction control lights coming on

Its the abs sensor, if you encounter an ice patch or snow you won't even be able to stop because the pedal will will push back and make the rip grind noise. If you pull the ABS fuse out, you won't have ABS but you can stop and you won't have the grind noise and back pressure for now. Its safer to not have ABS when the sensor is faulty.

When I put my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix in drive and step on the gas, I hear a short grinding noise and then my ABS and Emergency brake light come on on the dashboard and stay on while I'm driving. What's...

dont know if this will help... but my Windstar had the same issue with the lights... it was just the sensor screwing up or no longer attached properly. as far as the grinding goes... it could be the abs kicking in because of a faulty sensor, but poke your head in and take a look at the brake assembly and make sure your pads are ok and that everything is attached properly.

hope it helps:)
