I have an Audi A6, the central locking has stopped working on the drivers door only. I can even open the door with the key although the button moves slightly as if it is trying to open. I am having problems with my central locking. I drive an Audi A4 1.9 TDi. Year 2002. Tne drivers door will not lock on the button, but all other doors will. The only way i can lock this door is physically putting the ket into the door to lock it. This will lock and open my door only. With this problem, the elec mirrors and windows fail to work either. Sometimes if i banged the drivers closed it would lock on the key button as normal, but not presently. I have tried both keys and same result.
Can you possibly diagnose this problem for me or do you feel it is a major problem.
Thanks
Gavin.

Check wire harness between driver door and body for broken wires.Wire harness bends , when door opens and closes so it may brake the wire or two inside harness.
Either one of the vacuum hoses has popped off or there is a leak in the system. The system uses a vacuum pump to push/pull air through hoses connected to actuators in each door..
Have someone activate the system while you listen in the trunk for the pump, find it and see if one of the hoses has fallen off there.
Sounds like you are having problems with your built-in alarm system. Like most systems in your Audi, you can read the error codes stored in the controllers. It takes a tool normally only a dealer has (VW or Audi) or an adapter like the VAG Com. (Google it)
I also think you can disable the alarm system and just use the key.
Could the lock button on your remote be stuck? Use a different key/remote. (leaving the suspect key at home.) The keys/remotes can be taken apart....
try squirting a lubricant lke crc or similiar in lock mechanism and dribble down button to lubricate, you may have to take door facia off to get the right spots i would try this first
As far as the central locking issue, it sounds like you need to replace your central locking pump. You can buy them online.
I have a 95 A6 and I am in the process of looking for a new central locking pump.
The part number may be 4A0 862 257 J, that is what it is for me.
There are directions online as to how to change this yourself once you get the part. If you buy from the dealership the part is $500.
Be thankful your child locks weren't engaged. We haven't been able to open our back doors since the pump went out.
1st wind the glass down and turn the key in the driver door twice in clockwise direction to lock, at the sound of the second click try try opening the door thru the window (passenger) manually. you will need to pull the knob twice before it opens. you can get all the passenger doors open this way until you decide to change central lock system. To activate the remote; insert the key into driver door while pressing the lock or unlock button on the remote for at least five-ten seconds which should get it functioning normally again. hope this helps. it worked on mine.
You should still be able to lock your car with the key, remember how we use to do it the old way..... with the key :-D. The central lock solenoid is located in the door itself, behind the door trim. Replace the offending solenoid with a new or used one. And once again you can lock/unlock the car with the remote
