96 Grand Am 2.4l A/C not equipped - Lots of cool air through vent. Almost no air to defrost. Blows hard to floor (great temp mix). Every vent setting? Mech just replaced heater core? What? Fine before

Mech just changed the heater core in my 96 Grand Am Se, 2.4l, that is not equipped with A/C. In every vent control setting: cool air blows through front vents with power. BARELY feel hot or cold air through defrost to windshield. AMAZING air to floor, with accurate hot/cold air mix. ALL VENT CONTROL SETTINGS DO THIS! WHAT? Mech just changes heater core. He is a pro! Why am I looking this up? Everything worked beautiful before the heater core swap! Help? Thanks!

Looks like your mechanic messed up. If he has any integrity then he should take care of you. If not and you want to try and tackle it yourself then you have to ask yourself this: do I want to pull the dash out? Because that is what that will entail. Sounds like he may have messed up the ducting somehow. Unless the blend doors and directional doors are electric actuator operated in which case those actuators need to be replaced

SOURCE: 2004 Pontiac Montana blows cold air in defrost

There is a mix damper inside your duct that controls the heat over heater core and ac evaporator that to your floor and one to your defrost. it is probable an electric actuator, that is not functioning properly. If yu can locate it and manually move it, you might have to remove the actuator motor first, you should be able to figure out your problem, I hope this helps! merry Christmas!

SOURCE: a/c vents door control not working

Can you hear anything moving in heater when you move the switch to other settings? If not then the blend door is not moving to redirect air flow. There is three things that could cause this, 1 the control switch is bad or 2 the blend door acturator is bad, and 3 linkage for the door has come unhooked or broke, most likely its #1 or #2. First you need to find the blend door acturator and test light the wires to it, there should be 3, 1 hot with key on 2 only hot with switch moved, and 3 ground. If you got power from wires than the acturator motor is bad, if no power switch is bad.

SOURCE: ac vent problem

Damper/flap for driver's side is probably stuck. Try moving the selector from cold to hot several times. Also, move the recirc/outside air control if the previous doesn't work.

SOURCE: 98 grand prix sse. The climate control system

OK, sounds like the vacuum motor system is either disconnected behind the dash, or the vacuum control for the door inside the dash is broken, somehow.

need to take dash and climate controls off to see which it is.

Good luck.

The A/C pump starts when i move heater controls to defrost or mix

Great question dustin but the A/C is suppose to come on in defrost or mix mode- this is floor & defrost. Does not seem to make sense does it. One of the things the a/c does is remove the moisture from the air. You need warm DRY air to remove the moisture from the windows. An automotive H.V.A.C. ( Heating,Ventilation,Air conditioning) first forces air thru the a/c evaporator core then thru the heater core and out the selected vent. If you only want a/c a blend door will by-pass the heater core which is controlled by a hot/cold knob or digital temp cotrol on the dash. Now back to the cold air problem- assuming the basics are all ok- Coolant is full, Engine gets up to proper operating temp-around 195 degrees- upper radiator should be hot. Both heater hoses should be hot. If thats all OK the blend door might not be working. It is controlled by an electric motor called a Blend Door Actuator which are prone to fail. I have replaced many on ford vehicles. Hope this helps

Heat/cool comes out of floor and defrost but not vent setting

There are 2 vacuum lines that control your hvac system, one of them is either disconnected or dry-rotted and needs replaced. I was able to fix it by purchasing a 3-way splitter for a vacuum line, bought some rubber vacuum line and spliced into the cruise-control vacuum line. Worked like a charm. If it's not that, you could have a vacuum leak anywhere alone the line from the intake manifold to the evap canister

I can turn the ac off and turn the heat on in my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. How do I control the thermostat? I have tried putting on auto,vent,floor/defrost,defrost, and turned the temp up to 90 and it...

It sounds like thermostat (in coolant system) needs to be replaced. They only control you have for temps are the dials on dash, but if coolant thermostat is sticking you're limited to what it outputs. Replace coolant thermostat and you should be "good to go"

96 suburban air conditioning blows out cool in front hot air back

Am investigating same problem. Download the free technical manual and you can find a diagram for the air mix door. If this doesn't shut you will be getting lots of heat through despite the cooling of the Aircon. I don't know how to get at it or fix it but it describes how to run diagnostics - you don't need specialist tools for this. Also a blocked pollen filter probably won't help.
