Sounds like a dead coil pack and needs replaced cause you're getting no fire to those plugs and causing a rough idle. Another thing is, that catalytic converter will only turn red because it's plugged up and needs replaced. Have that checked out friend.

Before changing you pcm try cleaning your egr valve. remove the valve and see if its stuck in the open position if so use a small pick to clean around the spring.

Sounds like a bad fuel injector. Shop would need to run a contribution test to confirm. I must say, good detective work, good luck.

Engine misfires. Battery dead/fixed. Po303 code: Changed plugs/wires, code cleared/reappeared. Misfiring again. Po420 code/then cleared. Po306 code. Replaced coil tower. Misfired again..

You either have a bad catalytic converter causing too much back pressure or you are running rich. I think cylinder 3 and 6 are on the same side of the engine (except opposite banks) right? Locate the fuel pressure regulator. Is it on the same side? I've seen those go bad and allow fuel to be sucked into the vacuum line causing a rich condition/ misfire on two or three cylinders on that side of the engine.

My check engine light and limited performance reading came on at same time, opened hood catalytic Converter red hot. What causes this problem

2 things come to mind. a plugged catalytic and the engine is running too rich and the convertor is trying to burn off the excess fuel.

2000 ford taurus won't crank immediately on cold engine. takes anywhere from 5 min to 2.5 hrs to crank depending on the weather. the hotter the better. fuel pump/filter have been replaced. IACV has been...

You do not mean cranking, the starter turns
over the motor, that is cranking, is it not

You mean it doesn't start, that is a NO Start Condition

Lets use common sense here

You didn't need to ask any questions here
because the exhaust converter gets red hot & the
car is not only unuseable but overheats

Your looking at at least $1000.00 to diagnose &
resolve many problems

The converter is 14 years old & if it wasn't red hot,
it is time to replace it

It is hot for several reasons, you did not say what motor is in there

The timing is most likely an issue

Also you can not replace the converter until you replace
the spark plugs, get rid of any cylinder misfires, rich fuel conditions, fix fuel trim,& such, all of which along with timing
& I mean serious mechanical repairs, have attributed to ruining
the converter, oxygen sensors, all of them, from the heat
& the list goes on.

Lot to have checked out & you can't do it in your driveway
with no experience & no professional test equipment

Catalytic converter overheat

A rich fuel mixture will cause the catalytic converter to run hot. A plugged catalytic converter will cause the engine to run poor but not overheat normally

Catalytic converter has plugged up twice in 3000 miles

Catalytic convertor fails due to oil burning, recent head gasket, improper fuel control, but plugging up at 3000 mile misfire surely plug it up when the vehicle is dumping gas in the catalytic, lean misfire ,running very rich due to a coolant temperature.Who is putting this on?I dont know what state you are from,a catalytic should not be installed unless the vehicle is in proper fuel control.and whoever installed this should foot the bill. You need to claim warranty regardless and plus there is a EO# that must match the vehicle.

The car missfired. We put in new coil pack, new plugs, but car still miss fires. The exahuste pipe after cat. getting red hot. The car also smells as if its running rich and both fan motors are on. Check...

Replace the O2 Sensor and if that doesn't fix it your going to have to start replacing the stuff Identified by the codes. Most likely the Catalytic converter is bad and the Crank Position sensor. If the Crank Position sensor is sending faulty signals then it will cause misfires, the O2 sensor causes the motor to run rich, the Catalytic converter will become overheated if your running too rich or it is damaged or partially blocked.
