You could use a product called water glass or Sodium silicate that you can find at some pharmacy stores. Sodium silicate can be used to seal leaks at the head gasket. A common use is when an alloy cylinder head engine is left sitting for extended periods or the coolant is not changed at proper intervals, electrolysis can "eat out" sections of the head causing the gasket to fail. Rather than remove the cylinder head, "liquid glass" is poured into the radiator and allowed to circulate. The waterglass is injected via the radiator water into the hotspot at the engine. This technique works because at 210-220 °F the sodium silicate loses water molecules to form a very powerful sealant that will not re-melt below 1500 °F.

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

is the floor board on passenger side wet???If yes it's the heater core, which should be accessible by removing the glove box. Did u check the oil, to see if it 's milky??? some times on the vw of any kind, they spring a slow leak on the head gasket which could cause the abnormal starting in the morning. Which then, as the engine warms up causes the gasket to swell up and seal itself untill the engine cools completely off again. Eventually the gasket will completely fail and u'll have to bring it to a shop or get a repair manual to replace the head gasket.

did the electric fan on the radiator start up? if this dont start up, it can get the engine overheated , specily if the car run in hot weather , an when the car stay on idle . The other problem is the engine head , the head gasket can blow and you get the compresion presure in the water chanal .Try to se of the oil on engine is gray? If gray you must change head gasket.
