My clutch wont go into gear even when im pushing all the way down on the clutch pedal. I can force it sometimes and itll will go after that, but for every gear, its almost as if im not pusing in the clutch and trying to shift. Is it my master/slave cylinder i need to replace or the clutch? because i just got my clutch replaced a month ago. I can start it in either gear, but when i do, any slight release on the clutch pedal, the car will start to move. It also grinds really badly when trying to shift into reverse. I had this same problem when before i had the clutch replaced but now its doing it again.. I drive a toyota 4runner 4 cylinder year 1990. I just need some help on what the problem is because i dont know where its coming from.. please help!!!
Hopefully you got a warranty with the clutch job, so I would take it back to that shop first. If you have someone else work on the truck the first shop is off the hook for responsibility. Its possible the clutch has failed, or you have developed a new problem.
Testimonial: "one more thing on the side note. although it was working when I got it back, it still would not disengage the clutch until my foot was maybe 1/2 inch to an inch from the floor. I thought it would engage/disengage around the mid point from foot to floor.. so I don't know if that means anything or not."
well i tried bleeding it out. wasted a whole liter on just bleeding out. no air bubbles. i had a clear hose line connected to the bleeder valve just to make sure to see that there were no bubbles. i dont see why the clutch would fail after driving it just fine for 7 days or so. just all of a sudden stopped letting me shift into gear. ive replaced the master and slave yesterday and even got the clutch pedal a little more play for it. but i still cannot shift. i do not have the money to replace a clutch, let alone, a pressure plate. I would totally replace it myself if i knew how to do it but i dont. on the side note, there are no leaks in the lines either. so is it possible that the only other problem it could be is the pressure plate?
no i didnt have enough to get my clutch replacement professionally done, it was done from a friend of mine. it worked just fine when i got it back but soon as i got insurance and drove it maybe 5 miles each day for 7 days. it all of a sudden stopped on my way home.
Sounds like it was not installed correctly, or there was a problem with the hydraulic part prior to the replacement. You are right in that a new clutch should disengage around the half way point with the pedal. Someone will need to find out if the clutch disc is moving when you push the pedal. I don't know if there is an inspection plate on the bell housing or not. Its also possible you got a rebuilt clutch which could have failed from weak components.

Check your fluid first. If there is a bleeder try bleeding. If that checks out you will need slave cyl

Sounds like it is a clutch issue. Have the clutch plate checked or check the clutch and friction plates. I know it sounds strange but In reality we always press teh clutch all teh way in to shift. But going from 2nd to third you actually don't have to. Going from 3rd to 4th is even less of a distance. It may be a problem between the clutch and friction plates depending on when you last had them changed and adjusted.

pressure and clutch plate (clutch set) need to be inspected and probably replaced. be prepared for a transmission repair as well if the problem has been going on for months.
