96VW jetta stalls out when warm

My 96 Jetta GL 2.0 gas will stall out and refuse to start. It will crank, but no spark from the coil. Plugs, wires, rotor, cap and coil are all new. Both the new and old coils will start up cold , but motor dies as soon as it warms up, and no more spark. Fuel filter is new as well, and fuel is getting to plugs. What next?

My 2002 jetta will crank but wont start

turn your key to the on position and see if you hear the fuel pump kick on, if so and you have gas in the vehicle then you should check to see if you have spark at the plugs. you can remove the sparkplugs one by one and check for spark by grounding out the end of the plug and cranking for just a few seconds. if you dont have spark it will be in either the spark plugs, the plug wires, or the coil packs.

I have a 97 vw jetta 2.0 gls had problems with starting up the car then realized after i changed the spark plugs and wires and the distributor cap with rotor i took off the ignition coil after examining it...

Best checking your firing order, could have 2 crossed. Make sure the vacuum line is connected to the distributor advance too. That could cause hesitation.

96vw jeta won't start and i've changed both engine and trans mission computers and i stilll don't get any fire.

Have you checked for spark. Where did you get the coil? I have found that aftermarket coils do not work on these only the factory ones. I can't explain it. But I have one in my shop with a bad coil and got two from o'reilly and two from napa and both would do nothing. Got one from VW, car ran perfect. Checked the aftermarket coils and the resistance was different on the primary side of the coil.

96 2.0 jetta. started up as usual then died 2 mins later. Will crank but not turn over, no spark from the plug wires. what should i look for?

Are the injectors pulsing on and off? If not, it is your Crankshaft position sensor or the wiring to it.

Is the ignition system coil on plug or what?

Stalling

I had the same problem to the point that the car turned off. Turns out, I changed the spark plugs with the wires, fuel filter and cap. Runs better than ever and problem solved. Oh I also changed the coil. Hope this helps.

96 vw jetta 2.0l will turn over but will not start

I had a problem like this on a 1997 VW Jetta 2.0L. I suggest you obtain a multimeter, a gas pressure gauge, and a used injector from a junk yard. You need to find if the car has spark if it is getting gas and if the injector is firing. Plug a used spark plug into say # 4 spark plug wire and ground end against the manifold or other ground. Have someone crank the engine and see if there is spark. If there is spark then disconnect the electrical connector and plug in the used injector and hold in your hand. Have someone crank the engine and if it clicks as the engine revolves the injector is firing. Now if you have spark and an injector that clicks then put the pressure gauge in the upper line going to the injector manifold. Use a T so that the fuel can still flow into the manifold. If these three things check out. You need to also verify the engine is timed correctly and the timing belt did not slip a few teeth. I had a problem with my crankshaft sensor. I bought a new one and although I was getting about a .3 volt ac signal, I still had no spark at spark plugs. I wound up getting another new crankshaft sensor and read 3 volts ac from the new sensor. I then had good spark Hope this helps

My jetta stalls

I have seen timing issues with the 95 jetta when your crank and cam marks are off a tooth, when you reset this it will not start. Remove the harmonic balancer and the lower crank sprocket, look for the sheer pin to be missing. replace lower sprocket if sheer pin gone. when set your crank and cam marks and put timing belt on. Tip, there is a timing plug on the top of the bell housing near block, usually green, remove plug . look for mark on flywheel and on tranny. if all three line up your timed correctly. good luck.

1997 vw jetta stalling when raining

The problem in the Jetta could very well be with the ignition coil. I had the same problem for a long time and tried the usual replacing plugs, wires, etc, but nothing seemed to work.

It ended up being the ignition coil which over time, managed to sustain very small cracks. Even a small amount of moisture would cause all sorts of problems.

I replaced the ignition coil and had no problems after that.
