2000 BMW 328i 4dr Sedan is not producing sound through any speakers? Someone told me this was a problem with the amplifier located in the trunk compartment? Wanted to be sure before I replace it as I would have to have this coded at a dealer as well? Price for the coding is unknown...? No blown fuses and radio dash unit seems to be fully functional. All factory wiring looks to be in good shape. Could there be any other issues than the amp in the trunk? Thanks for your response...

A Clymer Guide or similar manual will show you the wiring schematic. Should be available online, or in your library.

good morning and welcome to fixya
Yes there is a pre-amp that powers your system, it is actually bolted onto the back of the deck ( radio) . If you pull the radio out of the dash and look on the rear of it there will be a shiny silver block with heat sinks in it that is the amp. you can remove and re-install and new one if you need. Just make sure that you re-apply die electric silicone between the mounting surfaces. If you remove the amp from the back then the radio will probably not function at all. They are hard wired into radio itself. You must solder the new terminals back into the board if you change the amp. hope this helps, let me know if you need any other assistence. thank you for using fixya and dont forget to rate
please rate this solution??
SOURCE: volume low on all four speakers, some static (amp or head unit problem)
I would check the amp first, especially if you have very low sound on the speakers. Before amps were made, bad output transistors would create the same effect.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. The battery died and I jump started it. Now the radio does not work. The only lights are the flashing equilizer lights. Any suggestions?
