Help my 94 automatic 4 cyclinder is leakin oil I'm finding under the car could or sould I replace the oil pan and how

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

The first thing you need to do is "find your leak". Gravity makes oil fall under the car.

I would first clean the engine to determine exactly where the oil leak is originating. It could be the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, sending unit, etc...
Gunk makes a decent degreaser (just follow the directions on the can). Once the mess is cleaned up it will be easy to find exactly what is leaking and continue from that point to replace the leaking gasket/component.
If it turns out to be the oil pan, you will see the bolts that secure the oil pan to the block from underneath the vehicle. When replacing the pan with the new gasket it's important that you torque the bolts in a cross torque pattern so the gasket has a chance to seal on all sides.

MY TRUCK IS RUNNING ROUGH AND HESITATING WHEN APPLYING GAS WHATS THE PROBLEM ITS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION

With a scanner connected to the car it may have codes to help you find the correct problem. like P0300 is readom cylinder missfire ( this means that many cyclinders miss and can be a vacume leak to low fuel pressure to EGR valve hanging open) P0301 -P0308 can be any number of these cyclinders misfiring as the cyclinders are numbered( The boots on the coils going over the spark plugs fail or get oil or water or even antifreeze in them and they miss. To pull the coils you need to pull the injector rail and if your not a regulr mechainc you sould hire this work done as the things you can break the a regular mechanic won't, May save you more than what the pro is going to charge.

Think I need oil pan gasket

It's probably the front crank seal or the cam seal. Kinda big job for a novice. The car only has one oil pan. The back one she refered to is for the transmission,if it's automatic. Never saw a oil pan gasket leak on a nissan '96 & up.

How do i change a oil pan geskrt in a 94 jeep wrangler/

On most, you need to remove all bolts around the perimeter of the pan, (You may want to remove starter to get to fasteners there) then slide a paint scraper between the pan and block to break the seal. Generally there is enough room to get the pan out. If you need a bit more room, support the transmission with a jack (use a piece of plywood on top to avoid bending anything) remove both engine mount through bolts and raise engine slightly (not too much or you will break something)
