SOURCE: How to take out dash
I agree with 'jthall1', it is a major pain! Undo every bolt and screw visible to the eye. Then you have to find the ones that you can't easily see! (They are near the defroster vents and under the dash and also behind the glovebox.) Now that you have it lose and it still won't come down for you, you have to remove the, i believe its 2, bolts holding you steering column up. At this point you can now pull the dash down and gain access to the heater core, which you will probably have to ***pry*** off the firewall. As previously stated, IT IS A PAIN!!!!!!!!!! PS- Don't forget to take the lines and bolts off the heater core from under the hood!

You don't.
The dash has to come out in order to remove the HVAC box to get to it.

No you don't want to hack up your car like that. You are going to have to not completely remove the dashboard just loosen the bolts holding it and pull the right side section of it back enough to access the heater core you can use some wire to hold the right side of the dash in place.

The dash has to be removed. The evaperator case has to be pulled forward to get to the clip or nut holding the heater case. It is a big job. If you are not comfortable removing the dash do not try it.

The heater core is under the dash on the right side, behind the glove box and the fan, and it is a bear to get out. Why do you have to remove it??? Also it is not like the old days, this one has the ac unit stuffed in there with it, all the heater lines on the engine side need to be removed, and possibly the ac lines.
