While driving, slowly in a parking lot, the engine shut down. I replaced the computer motor 2 years ago. When the car died I attempted to start it again. The engine cranked but did not turn over. I thought it could be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. I pushed into a parking space. I need to know how to access the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. Could it be the fuse? thanks in advance Jack Barris
You dont say what engine you have but most escort models have the fuel pump in the tank accessed by a removable panel under rear seat depending on your car the relay is fuse no,6 in the behind fascia fuse box or engine bay fuse box
Testing the fuel pump electrical circuit would be the way to see if the fuel is the problem ! Learning how to test automotive electrical systems would also be helpful .
Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation
Also looking at a wiring diagram for your vehicle would be helpful as well . You would do that to see what all is involved in the fuel pump electrical circuit on your vehicle. Also pulling a spark plug wire while cranking the engine over to check for spark .
Free wiring diagrams herehttp://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
Enter the vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on fuel controls . Click the search button ,then the blue links.
But first ,hook up a fuel pressure gauge instead of guessing if it's the fuel pump . You don't know any of this , suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop .

Timing is everything. Try testing you PCM. It's the little gray box near the base of your distributor. If you have spark, and fuel at the rail (plus good fuel rail pressure) than the timing is your problem.
Check the pet-**** on the fuel rail assembly to make sure the fuel at the rail is under presure and getting to your injectors. Then again make sure you have spark, lastly you should be able to test the trouble codes to see if your PCM is the issue.
Goos luck.
SOURCE: car dies when accelerate. do i need new fuel pump?
Hello;
It sounds from your description that the fuel pump is weak. To check the fuel pressure you need a fuel pressure test gauge for fuel injection. Attach the gauge to the test port schrader valve and turn the ignition to the on position. Record the reading. Now start the engine and record that reading. Unplug the pressure regulator vacuum line and record the reading.
The pump should have pressure with in specs but if low, start with the installation of a new complete pump. It is located in the fuel tank. Also replace your fuel filter.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks;
Rich

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty
