Power steering and transmission went out

First my power steering was leaking and going out it started to make noise then the transmission just wouldn't shift, unless manually. But it would go into all gears, but if you downshift then you have to manually shift all over again. It hasn't been jerking or reving the rpm. Just one day it wouldn't shift, have not drove since then.

Power steering and transmisson problems not the same issue
leaking powerstering making noise is because the pump is sucking air or worn out your tranny not shifting could start with low fluid and end with a worn out tranny you need to get it maintained and or serviced

Check the fluid level on your clutch slave cylinder. Have someone depress the clutch while visually observing the movement of the levers under the hood. Could also be a bad throwout bearing.

Well, there could be several possible problems. It is not uncommon to have a little harder shifting after a fluid change for a period if the system was low prior to the change however, If you had the fluid changed using one of those reverse flush machines I see the problem getting worse. Most stations want to use the back flush system to do a fluid change now days. That is because the newer model vehicle have a metal filter screen which is re-usable and is designed at the factory to use Synthetic Fluid. In the older model vehicles, 2000 to 2005, manufacturers where still mixing the types of filters that were being used. This model has a standard filter that model uses the newer filter. If you went to Jiffy Lube and didn't specify you wanted a regular Fluid and Filter change they hooked it to the machine and charged $140+ for the job. A regular Filter and fluid change with regular fluid would have run about $50. Every time, and I mean Every time, I have had a fluid change using that back flush machine on a vehicle within 6 months I have had to have the Transmission repaired at a shop. If you didn't have the fluid changed using that backflush machine then your problem is just adjustment to the new fluid being at the proper level. If you did, start saving for a Transmission rebuild at a shop, it's not far away.

99 Ford Taurus cooler line leak

First you need to see where the leak is. Watch the power system for leaks while someone is turning the steering wheel. Be careful not to get sprayed on. Is it a hose or a leak at the pump or on the rack and pinion steering? Is it even power steering fluid? Could it be transmission fluid? A transmission cooler line could be leaking.

When a power steering pump begins to fail, it's best to replace the pump and both pressure and return hoses to this system.
Recommend you replace this as soon as possible because it could eventually cause damage to your steering rack and pinion.

It should like you may have a leak if it took a whole litre. Once you fix the leak you may also find the power steering pump still makes noise. This can be repaired by replacing the pump. I hope this helps.

power steering pump probably went out.. if you can easily get at the belt and are any kind of mechanically inclined, remove the drive belt to the p/s pump and then start the car if the noise is gone then its probably part of the power steering pump

This is most likely the power steering pump that you hear. Check the fluid level to be sure it is full. If the fluid is full then the pump is going out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My 1999 dodge Intrepid makes a loud whining noise (like a power steering pump) any time it is running... Any ideas on what it could be?

if the winning noise gets louder when you turn the steering wheel, it is the power steering pump.
99 to 04 intrepids have a serpintine belt with a self tightner.what i did with mine is **** the old power steering fluid out with a shop vac.replaced half with new fluid and top up with a transmission/power steering fluid additive.the noise went away after a couple of days.
