Antenna motor runs after car is shut off, without retracting the antenna. I have to disconnect my battery to stop it

My retractable antenna on my 1992 Jeep Cherokee is broken and the motor of the antenna, continually operates, neither extending or retracting the antenna. When I shut off the vehicle the antenna motor continues to run. I have to disconnect my battery to make it stop. Is there a fuse I can pull to disengage the antenna?

Relay #27 in the box under the hood runs only the power antenna on a 1992. For the future here's the parts guide for everything in your jeep. Page 180 has a picture of what you want to pull.

Powee antenna wont retract or shut off on a 1991 buick park avenue

Look in the trunk on the ant side and pull back the the felt and you will see where it connects and disconnects. You may have a broken antenna lead. At the bottom of all electronic antennas is a plastic lead that fits in the motor to wind the antenna up or down. See if that is still attached or broken. If the motor is still good you only need to replace the stem, but if there is no life to the motor then you will have to replace it.

When I turned the engine off the antenna retracted but the antenna motor won't turn off thus draining the battery. How can I disconnect this?

There should be a separate fuse for the antenna motor in the fuse panel located either in the engine compartment on the wheel well or inside the vehicle at either passenger doors

Antenna doesn't retract when car is off

The antenna is wired to go down when the key is turned off. The motor is probably stripped out. You need to replace the motor at the base of the antenna, or unplug the bad one to make it quit running with the key off

Antenna motor runs while the radio is on or off. The antenna is stuck in the extended position. When the car is shut off the antenna motor continues to run to retract the antenna, but it doesn't go

You need to pull the fuse for the antenna or just unplug it. It has a fairly ridgid plastic wire that pushes the antenna up and down. Works fine until the wire breaks then it rolls up (antenna down) but it never increases resistance because the antenna never comes down , it's like a fishing reel when the lure breaks off, so the motor thinks that the antenna is still coming down and it will run and run and run trying to do it's job. Your lucky it stuck up and not down. If you want your antenna to go up and down again you'll have to buy and install a new one.

'95 Riv - antenna does not retract

Most power antennas have a plastic cable with teeth that feed into the power antenna motor.  I recommend replacing the antenna.  A special tool is required to remove the slotted nut where the antenna comes out of the car.  You could use something else, but be careful not to scratch your paint.  I also recommend taking apart the motor to remove any remaining broken pieces of cable.  Usually only one nut holds the cover of the antenna motor in the center. After removal of the old antenna follow these instructions: 1.  Feed the new antenna cable down into the antenna motor; teeth facing the front of the car. 2.  Have someone turn key enough to operate the radio.  You should feel the teeth raking against the teeth in the motor.  If you do not, face the teeth toward the back of the car. 3.  Have your assistant turn the radio off, and allow the antenna motor to pull in the cable.  The motor will automatically stop when it feels resistance.   4.  Return the slotted nut, so you do not have to repeat steps 2 and 3.

Power antenna does not go all the way up, does not power retract

Does the motor continue to run even though the mast doesn't retract? Is there a loud 'click - click - click" as it tries to retract and extend or more of a chattering noise? Did you clean and lubricate the spool into which the toothed belt goes when the antenna retracts? Use an all weather grease (white lithium). Did you clean the teeth on the gear that drives the belt? There is a small metal guide where the belt meets the drive gear, sometime this wears and allows the belt to slip on the gear. Pull the giude straight out, then rotate it 180 degress and reinstall.
