2004 Freestar battery to weak to turn engine over. Started with a boost and ran fine. Shut it off and then tried to restart, and all was fine. Later that day, after the car sat in -30 weather for 6 hours, tried to restart and only got a weak glow from the dash, nothing else. Put in a new battery and now everything electrical works great except that there is no response from the starter and the headlights don't work.

If last fix did not help. Look up parasitic drains on battery.

I JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2000 WINDSTAR SEL LAST WEEK..IT WAS JUST ELECTRICALLY DEAD..I CHECKED OVER THAT THING WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB AND COULD NOT AT FIRST FIND THE PROBLEM..WELL AS IT TURNS OUT, MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS BAD AND IT WAS CAUSING ALL THIS HAVICK !!! I REPLACED THE CLUSTER ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO PROGRAM IT BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START DUE TO THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM..IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM BUT IT IS IDENTICAL TO MINE AND I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS..
P.S.-I GOT MY CLUSTER AT A JUNKYARD BECAUSE A NEW ONE CAN BE PRICEY !!

SOURCE: glow plug system will not cycle

Do you have dual fuel tanks? Place the return fuel line from the back of the fuel pump in a bucket and see if it will start. If yes replace the fuel tank switching valve. It may switch supply side ok, but not return side and if so it is plugging the return, which will cause a no start stuation. If it starts running the return line into a bucket replace the switching valve.

TPS wears in spots and can cause intermittent problems like you described. Try turning off the car and unpluging the TPS. Start the car and see if smooths out the idle/reving problem while the TPS is unplugged. If yes replace the TPS.

Recently replaced battery in 2005 Freestar due to bad cell. Symptoms were: after shutting off van then later try to restart, starter tried to engage then clicking dials and gauges went haywire, dancing...

Thats what it sounds like! Either alternator is weak or the regulator is going bad (inside alt)
At least the batt was 6 years old, and needed replacing anyway. Avoid draining the new batt flat as this can significantly shorten overall batt life.

Look here for replacement alts ranging from under 100 to almost 400..

Car dies while driving

It could be something as simple as a bad or loose ground wire but the hard part is finding it.
