My 2004 Envoy air conditioner only blows air in the foot compartment area and in the rear. It does not blow air through the dash vents. It seems like a flapper (if any?) is not working that changes the setting the front foot air setting to the dash vents. Is there a switch, fuse, or relay that may be causing this problem? Please help...
I have just ordered the part to fix this. It is the A/C vacuum actuator (not sure why they call it a vacuum actuator because it is an electric actuator). It is under the dash on the driver's side close to the radio. There are two in the same area. It is the one closest to the floor. You can verify by taking it out (pull out duct that runs from center of vehicle to the outside to get better access), and actuating the vent by hand with the blower on to see if you now get air out the middle vents.
The part number is 1573596 from Rock Auto on the net. It cost $40.79.
On ours the one nearest the floor is for the dual temp control. The drivers side is located on the drivers side and the passenger is located behind the glovebox. The "flapper" actuator is located above the temp control actuator on driver side. With big hands and arms its not easy to reach. I was able to turn the flapper actuator (vent/ floor/ defrost) by hand using a custom flat tip screwdriver device. (Look behind glovebox to get an idea on size of screwdriver and what to turn with it. I used a puttyknife that I ground down to fit in the actuator) The electrical plug had to be removed or it would go back to blowing on the floor every time the car was shut off. To blow at main vents I turned counterclockwise as far as it would go. The part still needs replaced but at least its no longer blowing on the floor.
