I have a problem with this 1627 code,I drive the car and clear the code and the monitors.But once the obd connector is hooked up at the smog shop ,it trips the code and the gas light flashes and the gas gage goes back and forth. hprice is right. when you get this code it's usually because the little "fingers" that slide against the metal potentiometer bar on the fuel guage sensor has gone bad or broken off, or in some cases just pushed away from the slider due to it's natural wiggling.
that sensor is located in the fuel pump and you can't really buy a replacement sensor so instead you get the new fuel pump.
I went to 3 yards for this car and almost all the rodeo's of this year had the fuel tanks removed and the fuel pump / sensor pulled. so you can save a hassle and just buy a new pump.
removal is tricky because you've got bolted to the tank the lines that go up, so you have to be careful about removing them. Plus getting that back into the tank is tricky as it has to be exactly straight up / down then the ring clips it down.
It was a long job but had to be done to get past inspection because the check engine light can fail inspections. even if it has nothing to do with smog.
