1998 s-10 pick up wont start

I have a 1998 s-10 pick up with a 2.2 liter that quit on the freeway, had a lot of body codes, bridged the security system but still wont start. I can hear it start to catch but no start. Tried starting fluid no start. Can hear the fuel pump working but do not have a fuel pressure tester. did a poor man's test and fuel only shot about 3 inches up. Compression is between 150 and 180. I do have spark. Any idea at this point would be great, this is my bro-in laws truck and he's driving mine till we get this sorted out.

Ok Allen Eaton, What do you need to Know?

He changed the fuel filter about 2 weeks ago because the truck was lugging and backfiring that didn't help. I suggested the Crank Position sensor so he put a new on of those

Then it quit. A friend put it on a scanner and that's how we new about the body codes for the security, he also said codes came up he never saw before, additionally stated that he never saw so many codes come up. My bro in law said the truck started acting up a few months ago when the place he was driving for was flooded and he had to drive thru 18" to 2' of water to get to his Semi, quite a few times apparently.

A good parts counter person might have an idea of what fuel system parts fail such as mass airflow sensors and throttle position sensors. Of course first rule out the fuel filter which on an older S10 I believe was hidden at the front of the engine on the driver's side. Often what the parts a store has in stock is an indicator of what fails.

What about the fuel filter????? Have you changed it out??? If you can spary something like a started fluid, that means it is a fuel problem. My last check, it has to be above 50-psi on the fuel pressure to make it run right. I had 35psi, but whould not get over 30mph or down hill maybe 45mph. Check both filter & pressure, but check pressure with a New fule filter!!!!

THE FUEL PUMP IS BAD.

if your losing fuel pressure after the pump runs the drain back valve in the pump has failed.

and i doubt that you are seeing enough fuel pressure to run a vortec engine.

low fuel pressure equals a non running vortec

My truck did this after I replaced the fuel pump. Turned out to Fuel Pressure Regulator. It would crank and crank but never start. It's located underneath the black plastic manifold on the side of the injectors.

Hi, is it possible the new timing belt was not set tight enough? Seems like your valve timing has slipped.

My 02 chevy Silverado wont start.

Yes, that is literally the sole purpose for the neutral safety switch. To prevent the vehicle from starting in gear. If the neutral safety switch is malfunctioning, there is a very good change that the vehicle will not crank.

first check the timing belt because it may be broke.Another solution could be a clogged catalytic converter. It really sounds like a timing belt.Remove inspection cover for the timing belt and have someone turn over the motor and see if your camshaft is turning.

CAR LOOSING PRESSURE, CANT GET OVER 1.5 RPM'S

Hi I have a similar problem with my dodge ram 1500 1995 it was cutting off every 2-3 hrs in hard driving then it was getting worse and yes it sound like it was getting a lot of air in the intake finally I found a bad fuel pump inside engine compartment is a valve in the gas line where you can check the gas pressure and see if you have the same problem every time I was driving on the freeway I have to be easy on the gas or it will start complaining making this air sound and feel like dead then if I release the gas it will run again but I have to know how much gas and how fast can I go and for how long specially in the freeway so try and see if you have the same problem with the fuel pump

96 jetta treck wont start ( radio written SAVE )

I will work with some assumptions here.Your radio has a hole in each corner of it.Use nails and insert into the holes.GENTLY pull radio out and there should be a sticker on the body of the radio with a 4 number code.Write it down and put the radio back into the dash.Hold the scan and mode button in at the same time and the word SAFE will go away. Now,your station preset buttons are the keyboard.Push the #1 preset repeatedly until the first number in your code is displayed.then on to 2 for the 2nd and so on.After you put in your 4 number code, hold in scan and mode again and in about 2 seconds, tunes!!!!!You might get lucky and call your local vw dealer with the VIN of your car. They might have your code on file. Will save you a lot of trouble as the radio is not easy to remove.
best of luck!!!
