Anti skid My friend is having issues with her 2002 Olds Alero. This is what she writes: So this is whats going on with my car. It has that anti skid thing going on. When it activates (it's been doing that a lot with the snow). It makes a metal on metal grinding sound. Sometimes it makes like a computer sound too. Weird right? Well that's not the bad part. When it activates it locks up my steering wheel and my brakes. So what does that sound like to you my fellow gear heads?

SOURCE: Tail/brake light bulb replacement 2004 Olds Alero

In the trunk, in the rear corners, you'll see some plastic "caps" with tabs on them, similar to wing nuts. Remove those, and the taillight comes right off the back of the car. That will allow you to replace the bulbs.

SOURCE: 1999 Alero anti lock brake light

u can have the light scanned by autozone free of charge. Also in new york state the anti lock system is not part of inspection and can not be a failable issue. Ofcourse your state may be differant. Also the abs light will not turn on for brake pads.. Most common on the olds alero is a bad wheel bearing. The abs sensor is built into all the wheel bearings. The code that u can get out of the car will even tell you what wheel it is that is causing he light to come on. Unless ofcourse its not a wheel bearing and its a internal abs system issue. Let me know what the code is and I will try to get you a pinpoint place to look....

SOURCE: Olds Alero 99 Left front hub assembly

It sounds more like it's the wheel speed sensor that is part of the hub/bearing assembly. Since you have had the hub replaced many times I would look for the electrical connectors for the wheel speed sensor as the problem. An easy no cost fix.

BTW...GM has issued a service bulletin for the hub/bearing kit that states NOT to use the old style nut that comes in some kits as it will cause premature bearing failure due to it's design and the high torque requirements. The correct shaft spindle nut part number to use is p/n 10289657 and is torqued to 178 nm. The GM bulletin number is 03-04-18-001.

SOURCE: anti-lock, traction control, service soon, brake,

Anti-Lock and Trac Off lights are lit on my 1999 Alero, as well. They usually come on after about 5 minutes of driving, but are not always on when I start the car.

Anti skid

So you have several problems

Why ask ! Read your owners manual?

What do you usually do when you have a vehicle problem?

Go to a repair shop, so they can diagnose any & all things you
want to know about & are having problems with

Have to look at scan tool data

Check for codes & diagnose & resolve those issues first

You have an engine performance issue & an abs braking system
fault

Do you not go to a shop when things do work correctly?
Have to do that, road test & look at data

Most folks just drive & never do any Preventative Maintenance,
so no wonder problems come up to haunt you, a couple times
a year

I am having the same issue with my anti-theft device in my 2003 Alero. Last year it stopped running and would not turn-over. $400 later, Brakemax said they just had to reset the anti-theft device. oK,...

the shop that told you they ripped it out only ripped you off unless they removed some aftermarket alarm system i,m a gm mechanic and if you remove the factory anti-theft on a 2003 olds alero it will not run ever again until re-installed make sure your battery is charged good turn igntion switch to run position but do not try to start security light should be flashing let car sit with switch on and light flashing for ten minutes light should stop flashing now start your car this is how to reset anti-theft was that worth $400.00 and again why let a bussiness named brakemax look at a no start condition keep on and you will be BROKE to the max HOPE THIS HELPS AND STAY AWAY FROM THEM YOUR FRIEND @ HELPMAX

sounds like your ABS sensor is bad. The ABS sensor controls the trac. control. but it wouldnt effect daily driving. you would only notice it if you slamed on the brakes on a slick surface. the brakes will lock up like they ARE NOT supposed to.

2001 Olds Alero will act **** when switching gears

My car does the same thing. I wondered that myself, I don't think that's what it is though, I don't think you have an issue with the transmission. Your car has TWO check engine lights, and with the Alero--if there is an issue with the transmission one of the lights will come on. I am not 100% positive of this, but I had a 1999 Bravada (Olds) and it did do that when I had a tranny issue.

I notice when I drive my 2001 Alero my right leg gets SORE from pushing the pedal so hard. I think it is age, not the transmission.

READ YOUR SERVICE MANUALS. I don't get why people ignore them, honestly they have a wealth of information in them...could have saved a lot of people lots of money when people started claiming their car wouldn't start when it was a security feature that is listed in the manual that came with the book.

2002 oldsmobile alero coolant light and fuel

You must always check the coolant hot, expansion will cause a big change in level, how low was it? top it off hot and then drive a few days and recheck the level, I don't think you have an issue here.
