Basically early fuel injection system used 2 types of air intake sensors. One if called air flow meter or AFM,the other is manifold absolute pressure sensor or MAP. Only either one is used. Never both. AFM usually sits very close to the air cleaner even sometimes is attached to the air box. MAP sits closer to intake manifold and use the engine vacuum to measure pressure.
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor on the 1998 Windstar with 3.8L is located near the crankshaft pulley on the front cover. There is a shield mounted over the CKP sensor that you'll need to remove to access the sensor.
Would you care to share why you suspect the CKP sensor is bad? Typically with Fords a bad CKP will cause a no-start condition due to no spark, but you'll still hove good fuel pressure.
Well code 1450 for a Ford product is a problem with the gas tank venting system. I would think the pump in the tank is blowing the fuse, and it could be from excessive pressure in the tank.
The fuel filter is under the van located near the gas tank on a bracket bolted
to the body. Make sure you relieve the fuel pressure before taking the lines off
of the filter.
HAVE EVAP SYSTEM CHECKED. YOUR FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR NOT WORKING.CHECK THE CANISTER FUEL VAPOR HOSE AND INLET PORT FOR BLOCKAGE OR COLLAPSED HOSES.CHECK CANISTER PURGE VALVE HOSES FOR KINKS.HAVE CHARCOAL CANISTER CHECKED MAKE SURE ITS NOT GAS SOAKED AND PLUGGED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO CHECK OUT WHOLE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM.
SOUND LIKE WEAK FUEL PUMP.YOUR VECHICLE IS SURGING WHEN FUEL PUMP GOING BAD.REPLACE FUEL FILTER.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 35 - 45 PSI WITH KEY ON ENGINE OFF.IF FUEL SYSTEM OKAY. YOU COULD HAVE BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.
