Question about Cars & Trucks
Check engine light on showing catalytic converters issue. Catalytic converters have been replaced 2 times told now they are not under warranty after being told they are warranteed for 80,000 miles?

Before you go changing out the catalytic converter realize that the engine light comes on with only a few percent of the catalytic converter plugged - so before you change it, clan out the engine combustion chamber. i did this on my ford Taurus and with a $5 can of carb cleaner, it solved the problem

SOURCE: catalytic converters
If you are going to change the convertors I would just replace the first one closest to the engine. But when a computer code says "bank" they usually are refuring to the Oxygen sensor that is there , they are classified as bank 1 and bank 2. 1 being closest to the engine and 2 being farther down the exhaust. If its a computer code that told you bank 1 you might need to look at your oxygen sensor instead of your catalitic converter.

dearship parts are high.you can buy a factory catalytic converter or universal converter cheaper at auto parts place.they basic the same parts the.dealership has same catalytic converter.they put their price and labor rate charge an hour your pocket book will be empty.i have used universal catalytic converter.had no problem with it.the only difference is universal converter body a little shorter.but has same lengh as factory.if check engine is coming on you cant turn it off .if computer showing you a code.you could have a misfire causing rich exhaust emission.that can ruin a catalytic converter have it scan.dealership charge you about $130.00 .you can have it scan at advance auto or auto zone.to see what pcm code is.it could be oxygen sensor somethinh minor.

Catalytic convertor fails due to oil burning, recent head gasket, improper fuel control, but plugging up at 3000 mile misfire surely plug it up when the vehicle is dumping gas in the catalytic, lean misfire ,running very rich due to a coolant temperature.Who is putting this on?I dont know what state you are from,a catalytic should not be installed unless the vehicle is in proper fuel control.and whoever installed this should foot the bill. You need to claim warranty regardless and plus there is a EO# that must match the vehicle.
