SOURCE: 1998 chevy truck 1500 door latches

The handle mechanism wears over time. I went on eBay, bought a color matching handle for under $20 and replaced it myself. You have to be careful when removing the plastic panel bezel that surrounds the handle, drill out two rivets and your door will open like new!

SOURCE: i have a 2001 chevy

Same problem here. I finally got it after soaking the bottom latch with WD40 for a week. I ended up cutting the bottom rubber seal OFF below the latch. With a BMF screwdriver and hammer and three swings...it opened. The bottom of the latch has an "L" shaped metal guide-this is not the latch. Beside that, towards the rear of the truck, is the latch. The bottom part of the latch must be forced towards the cab and upwards at about a 45 degree angle. After removing the part I could see that it couldn't be unlatched from the inside no matter how much lubricant, heat, cussing or beer drinking I did. TOTAL COST: Latch-about $58 dollars (dealer item only)
Rubber seal- $25 or so
Beer-$22

I have a 02 s 10 with a stuck bottom 3rd door latch. I took my seat balts loose removed the door panel, also removed the plastic latch yoy use to open door, the top latch was alredy opened and I put a needle nose vise grip on the lever going to the bottom I used to much and broke the little plastic retaing piece that holds the lever.I looked inside door with light saw my latch was in open pos and took pry bar to pry botton door from inside, once opened i used a 10 mm 1/4 in drive to take out 4 bolt's to latch.removed latch placed in vice and heated with burnsomatic torch, the latch is coated with a plastic so i burned it all off with vice grip on the lever to open and pliers the work the part that catches door striker I kept working it until it freed up then put antu seige on put back in truck. I recomend buying a new latch and put anti seize on it. that's my plan but at least it's working for now. or get a good used one from a junk yard. you can e mail me at [email protected] for ant Q's

Chevy s10 driver door has difficulty closing all the way in and 3rd door topside latch wont open how do i fix both

Lube the door hinges and lock and striker plate. Then make sure you have clearance between the door and fender.
Check the hatch lock assembly to make sure that the rods that connect the latches are still connected. Lube all moving parts.

I have a 1993 Chevy s10 extended cab Chevy an my

The lock is likely rusted and you will have to remove the inside door panel to get to it and spray it with PB Blaster and hope for the best. Work the outside handle and see if it opens up. Good luck.

96 chevy s10 hood release cable broke need to open hood

On my 2002 s10 the small clip on the hood latch where the cable end attaches to the lever was broken.I finally drove a 3/4" mop handle and by prying, forced the grill down enough to unbolt the hood latch and after messing with it for a while I was able to reach behind the latch and press on it enough to drop the latch off the pin.Sure hope I don't ever have to do it again.
