A/t oil temp keeps coming up on the panel and all the lights on the panel board ie battery, engine etc comes on - this happens as the vehicle stalls and then we start and go and it is fine till it happens again. The car stalls after a few minutes of driving and when we are stopped at the lights and when we are about to drive away, it tends to stall. Took it to Toyota and after a few tests and driving around, they could not find. Asked us to bring back if the engine light comes on the panel with the recording of the error message. Any ideas guys- sorry, the vehicle is 2004 Rav4 Automatic
Incorrect gap in spark plug, check plug wires for broken or loose connections. Fuel filter may be clogged or impurities in the fuel system. Check for a vacuum leak at throttle body or in vacuum hoses. Hope that Helps. Need more help email me.

sound like the overheating of the engine did some internal damage. ethier an intake or head gasket or maybe even a warped or cracked head. worse case senero would be a cracked block. check the oil see if it looks milky like a grey sludge. most likely it is a head gasket. have a leak down test preformed to confirm. the labor for the head gaskets is 9 hours for 1 or 11.5 for 2. I would replace both and have the mechanic check the heads and block for cracks while he has it apart.

Same problem for me. The car would idle at about 2500 when started from cold and about 3 miles on would not idle at all, resulting in the revs dropping off when changing gear or stopping. Also rather jerky in top gear unless thrashed - numerous trips to the garage for air idle valve, injectors etc. but still a problem! Have just found out that GVs are a bit prone to carbon build up in the throttle body - mine was almost blocked - it now feels like a different car.

have the car checked when the check engine light is on,also a good scanner will be able to give you the history codes,get back to me with the codes and we'll go from there. you need someone with a professional scan tool

Checkk the EGR system for the EGR valve should open when the engine gets to operating temperature. If not the engine will stall out
