Hi. No this would need to be renewed. I take it you mean the reader coil for the transponder is damaged, as the transponder itself is in the key. If the key transponder is renewed (not the reader coil around the ignition barrel) then the key would need to be coded to the car.

Lost key to 98isuzu drilled the tumbler out now won't start

You presumably refer to the ignition lock barrel, around which is an antenna and a key with a transponder coded to the same code as the security system must be in close proximity before it will disarm and allow the engine to start.

2004 Volvo s40 2.4i need to get key and immobilizer to work properly so if I have the key and matching imoblizer will it work

The easy and cheapest fix is to get a new key cut and tape the head of the original key in close proximity to the halo ring sensor.

2001 chevy cavalier lost key can I replace the ignition switch without a key?

the original key is coded to your car.
So changing the barrel to have a new key wont help and ill tell you why.
Inside the original key is a transponder chip that is programmed to the cars immobiliser unit.
Attached to the ignition barrel is whats called a reader coil and its job is to read the keys chip when inserted in the barrel to deactivate the immobiliser so that the car will start.
What you need to do is contact a good knowlegable locksmith to provide a new key and code it to your car

Does a 2001 mercury cougar have a chip in the key

Yes, it does........

The Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) is fully passive in operation and requires no special procedures by the driver to arm or disarm the system. It is invisible to normal scrutiny and is operated by a miniature transponder within the key body. The transponder communicates with the powertrain control module through a transceiver mounted around the ignition switch lock barrel. The PATS functionality is incorporated within the powertrain control module.

PATS may be identified by a larger than normal sized ignition key. A larger sized ignition key indicates the presence of the transponder that controls the system.

The transponder code reading is carried out when the key. having been inserted into the ignition lock barrel is turned from position "0" to position "II" to crank the engine. If the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives the correct code the engine will start. If the PCM receives either no code or an incorrect code the engine will not crank and PATS remains armed and the engine immobilised.

Anti-Theft Indicator
Whenever the ignition is switched on the anti-theft indicator will remain on for three seconds while the system reads the ignition key code.

The anti-theft indicator will flash rapidly or glow continuously after the initial three seconds to indicate the PATS has immobilised the vehicle.

Wrong key broke off in ignition of a 2004 focus how do i removed this piece

Might have to have the barrel drilled out and replaced, I have removed broken keys with very fine crochet needles and a lot of patience. To take a barrel out without damage the key needs to be turned into the first position to depress the barrel lock pin, which you can't do with the broken key in. Good luck

Imobiliser renault scenic megane is stuck on and can't start car, car will turn over key fob will lock/unlock car had to replace ignition barrel so battery has been off

tight you replaced the lock barrell so you have new keys ,now inside this key is a chip so remove the chip from the old ley and tape it to teh transponder ,now make sure the chip that was inside the key is removed by whatever means you have to use even drilling it out. Then it will start as what happens is the new lock has the key programmed to a code for instalisation in a new vehicle and the chip in the key is confusing the transponder its a renault remember and they do have a mind of their own in regards to the immobilisor ,if you do as i say it should start if it doesnt then lock and unlock the drivers door three times slowly then jump in quick and start car within 20 secs of the key turning procedure and if that doesnt work then call the dealer and pay through the nose

common problem the lock wears out and wont turn a replacement lock at auto parts store is about 100.00 dollars problem is if you have a transponder key the new lock comes with a plain key so when you change it the car wont start the way around this is what i did 2 months ago to my own car 1998 camry ( same car ) you need to take the bottom cover of the dash under the steering column off there is a little hole in the steering column under the key lock its a button up there your supposed to push when the key is in the on position but the problem is it wont turn so you have to drill it out its a hardned pin to prevent theft use a cobalt drill bit i think its 3/16 or close to it before you do this disconnect battery remove the little box from key lock under dash it has small phillips screws and the electrical ignition switch from the back of the ignition lock than drill till you can pop out the ignition lock you have to pop off the cover around the lock it has the green coil light in it when you turn on the key it lights thats the transponder coil for the computer now turn the key in the new lock on and slide it in reassemble everything connect battery turn key make sure it cranks but it you have anti theft key it wont start cut your old key apart carefully and take out the transponder chip cut a hole in the new key to glue in the chip and car will start now if you have transponder key you are looking at about 600.00 from dealer if you have a standard key its about 400.00 hope this helps
