Check the shell earth wires in engine bay there are a few just look for them and check them and clean them up.

Testimonial: "I do refrigeration not cars. So it took me a while to find what you were talking about. I found 2 under the van that went to the frame. Then I found 3 more in the engine area under the hood. Two were by the Battery. One to the right of the battery & one towards the front of the van. I removed all of them one at a time and cleaned them. Also cleaned the metal they were mounted to. Cleaned off the dirt, or rust & or even rubbed off the paint to get to bare metal. After all that I still have no power to the drivers side running light and to the license plate light. At least I have clean grounds for the rest of the components in my van. I have replaced the light bulb harness with a new one. I have also traced the wire all the way up to the head ache cage of the van. Or I mean the safety cage that separates the driver from getting killed by the flying motors that fly forward when you slam on the brakes. I have checked the fuses twice. With a beep ohm meter once and then with the actual ohms test setting. I have checked the fuses to make sure there is power to each side of the fuses as well. My next thoughts are that I missed a ground in the engine area or under the van. Or I have a shorted wire from the head ache cage to the fuse box under the drivers seat or I have a short in the wire from that fuse box to the actual light switch in the dash. Which I have also replaced as well. Do you have any other suggestions of something I missed. Like another ground or maybe something else. Oh and I have replaced the bulb. Plus I have tested the bulb with the ohm meter. Not knowing what to look for is frustrating. Or kind of like someone who doesn't know how to work on a fridge trying to fix one. Fridges are easy because I know most of them. Cars and my van aren't. Appreciate the assistance. Hope you have another idea of where I can check. Look forward to reading your reply. Thank you. tom"

I think you are going to need to check the body control module it sorts out the power to the lights. and from what i have found out its under the seat. it looks like this pic. check the wiring on it and plugs for damage. if you have power from the fuse then this is the next step. as for the back licence plate light i'm thinking this is a separate thing, check the earth on the light and the live wire to the light cluster as it runs off this. you may need to re wire this part but it is a single wire feed. but earth near to the light/s are prone to rust up. I am hoping it is just a bad wire or pin in the BCM body control unit. as they are not cheap to replace. if you have some soldering skill you may be able to fix the unit as its usually don't to a blown fuse in the unit. hope this helps you.

It might take me quite a while to get the next suggestion completed or to check the body control module. Its not under the seat. It is in the dash board closer to the passenger side. From the info i saw and the pictures. I would have to take the dash board almost completely apart. One friend suggested i take the wire that goes to the passerger side running light & splice into it. So it will send power to both the running lights and the license plate light. The license plate light is on the same power wire (that doesnt have power) as the drivers side running light. So if i just add a jumper from the one that has power to the one that doesnt. it should work. Or i mean i would cut the one that has no power and splice it into the one that does have power. that way i will have power to both the running lights and the license plate light from that one line. Or if i cant do that? then i guess i will take the dash apart.

Oh it says on 2005 models its under the seat. says the auto control module is in the dash. 2000 models were the way you said so you must have a late reg model. it may last a wile doing the jumper but you will be putting more power on one wiring loom could cause alot more problems. at worst set fire.. wire for the plate can go on to either side of the side lights that would not be a problem. I have been reading up on the control module and there is an internal fuse built in to them... have you had a bulb blow out or had a higher rated bulb fitted to any of the lights on that side. you can try the battery off for 2hrs and see if it resets as on 2005 models its like a breaker switch. has internal power in side that lasts for an hour or so so say 2hrs. try this. just remove the negative off the battery. you never know it may reset. check the bulbs are the right rating wile the power is off to.

i have a full breakdown pdf mechanics manuel on my computer. it shows a 2009 having it in the dash. but i think it 2005-2009 that it is refering to. i will check again to be sure. the only thing under the drivers side seat. is the fuse box. or the smaller fuse box. there is a larger one in the engine compartment. that one is on the drivers side. i was thinking if i did jump it out. i still wouldnt have running lights when i hooked up the trailer. so i havent jumped it. yes, the light on the drivers side or the running light bulb on the drivers side burnt out. that is what caused all this in the first place. i wish i didnt have to go to work right now. or i would see if it will reset. as soon as i get done for the day. i will disconnect the battery. also not sure what you mean about the right rating? i took out a 3075 bulb and that is what i put back in. from the mechanics manuel i have it says that is the correct bulb. oh and the manuel is for a mechanic. it does not give you trouble shooting. plus it doesnt have a table of contents or not a normal one. so to look stuff up. i have to go thru pages and pages of it. thougth i would say. incase you were curious why i didnt just use it. if i knew what i was doing. that book would be perfect. but for 20.00 i couldnt pass it up. wouldnt that be sweet if disconnecting the battery took care of this. i\'d be kicking myself for all that i have done and what it turns out i needed to do. sure would be great to have one less thing to deal with. i will let you know. will try as soon as i can. thank you for the help. very much appreciate it.

sorry are you sure this is right ??? 3075 - 60 volt, 3 watt, T3-1/4 Miniature Bulb, BA9S Miniature Bayonet Base......if this is right then thats the wrong bulb. take it out and then try your lights ? should be 12v 5watt. standard bulb. 60v it would take all the volts just trying to light it. would be a very dim light ie glow red on the element.

My mistake. it was a 3057 bulb. found the packaging it came in. oh and i disconnected the negative cable for 4 hours while i learned how to change an outer door handle. learned by doing it and figuring out how by looking. sure do wish i could do the same with the running light. its frustrating when you dont know were to look or waht to do.

do you have a meter, if you do take the light out at either end and check earths work. if we cannot get this figured out the only thing i can think off doing is to make like a spotlight wiring. there by using the side that works and branching it to the other side by way of a relay and a live wire so it don't use the power on the good side. but this will mean you will need to wire a new live wire. until you can get this problem sorted properly.

Really am sorry for the big delay in this message. work has picked up quite a significant amount and any free time i have had. Has gone into trying to get more ready for summer. Every day there is more to do. Just not enough time in the day to get it done. You mean check if i have a good ground or earth ground inside the plug were the bulb goes into. Oh and i made another oops. I had a turn signal go out on the other side. Same bulb as the running light. Just to be sure i was right. I looked up the bulb in the owners manual. It is a 3157. So i replaced both. The turn signal that was out works now. But i still have the same issue as before with the running light. I will try to check for the ground tonight. Tomorrow i dont have as much. Thursday, Friday, & Saturday are all busy. Last week it got almost to 90 degrees. this week we are cooling down a little. In just a few weeks we will probably get close to 100. Hopefully it waits till may for the 100s. I will keep trying if you will keep suggesting. thanks for your help.

Been slammed with work. Its been between 103-112 degrees here in Phoenix. Its not too bad right now because it is a dry heat. But as soon as monsoon season starts. my work load will probably double or triple. I have not found the issue yet. Spoke to a mechanic friend/customer whom i have been working on his AC unit at his house. He said it sounded like that BCM you were talking about. I found a guy on Craigslist who is parting out a 2004 Chevy Express 2500 Cargo Van. He has a BCM with out the contractors package for $60.00 . Once i figure out what the contractors package is and if i have it or not. If i dont i will probably buy it off him. Other wise i dont know what i am going to do. right now i am trying to learn how to do the AC on my van. just cant find the levels of refrigerant it holds. no tag in engine compartment. online search is not giving me much either. need to find an owners manual. van didnt come with one. hope your weather isnt as bad as here. thank you..
