I replaced the blower motor resistor, and tested the blower motor direct to 12V and worked fine. After replacing the blower motor we replaced the cabin air filter since this is what probably burned out the resistor from never being changed. Now after about a week, the blower motor stopped blowing one day and then a couple days later it works fine. There is a faint clicking I hear while it work and gets faster with higher speeds of the switch for the fan which tells me that it is related directly to the fan.. Could I be looking at possible brushes going bad causing the intermittent operation of the blower motor itself even though it seemed to work fine out of the vehicle?

could be the motor brushes or bush/motor bearing when slowed
you might want to inspect the brushes and clean the dust out of the motor

sounds as if you have a bad resistor or a blowermotor going bad. if it has a bad winding in the motor jarring it my make it come back on

I believe the compressor may be locked up burning the belt as it passes. Take it to your most trusted mechanic for a further diagnosis.

most common is the blower motor resistor or "module" going out. but if you have 12volts to the resistor the motor should work on "HI" but not on any other speed. if it doesnt work at all, you might have a bad motor. just to be safe id replace both. neither one is too hard to replace. three 5/16" bolts for the motor and two 5/16" for the resistor they are both under the glove box

Access the blower motor resistor board located behind the glove box. Take a jumper wire and ground each of the Dark Blue wires that have tracers on them one at a time. Caution: do not ground out the plain Dark Blue wire or a fuse will blow. As each wire (with the tracer) is grounded, the blower motor should run at a different speed. If it does not, the resistor board has failed.
