2001 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 engine shuts off

2001 jeep very intermittently will crank but not start, and sometimes the engine shuts off while driving. Had it put on jeep scan tool, no codes. 50 psi fuel pressure while running. It never happens while we have scan tool or gages ready. I replaced the crank sensor and it ran perfect for about 1.5 months and it has started happening, again. Maybe bad crank sensor again?

It is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty

I had the same problem with my 2001 cherokee. The vehicle would run and unpredicatbly shut down. If I left it alone for a while it would start again. I took it to my mechanic who check the fuel pump, that was working properly. He later changed the crankshaft speed sensor and the vehicle is running great with no more shut off.

I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee and it always starts up, but sometimes it just shuts off randomly while I'm driving and after a few minutes of rest turns back on, the battery will still be worki

Install a new crank shaft sensor. I had the same problem with my wife's Jeep. It would run fine fore days at a time then quit. When the crank sensor goes out their is no spark or injection of fuel into the engine. This is a Hall Sensor. They can be intermittent, and affected bu heat. If your Jeep will not start, try freeing the sensor and see if it starts. Cold Freeze is used in electronics to test

Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts off at idle while stopped. RPM fluctuates then engine eventually dies.

your idle air control valve is going out located behind the throttle body.

Jeep will cut off and not want to crank back up.

will the engine crank and not start

or will it NOT crank at all

if it is the crank no start concern, check the ASD (auto shut down relay)

2000 Grand Cherokee Limited, the car runs well but sometimes when i stop it refuses to fire. The engine turns over well and i have gsat the injectors but it wll not fire. Have changed plugs but to no avail,...

Jeeps have a reputation for the crankshaft position sensor going out. The sensor "counts off the rotation of the crank" if it fails to read the mark that makes the sensor, it will stall and re-start. After a while it will no longer start. I had a jeep with this problem, and it would shut down going down the interstate, but restarts. You can replace the part, it's about $60 and located at the back/bottom part of engine.

2001 grand cherokee disk changer

Does it still say disk error if you change disks?
If so, first guess would be that either a disk is inserted upside down in it's slot or the disk is too scratched up for the player to read.
But if it was playing that disk when you shut the engine off and said disk error when you cranked up again, it could be a fault in the player.
Sometimes CD player "eyes" can get dirty too. I don't know if this is your fix, but I hope it helps a little.

1997 Grand Cherokee 4.0, ignition shuts down sometimes backfires and keeps going, or dies completely and hopefully starts up.already replaced coil and crank sensor.

The likely answer to your problem is that you have an intermittent disconnect in the ignition system. If power supply to the ignition system drops out, some fuel still goes through and when power returns it ignites in the exhaust resulting in a backfire. I would look for a bad ignition switch, or other loose connection that could me making/breaking contact intermittently.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.
