Are you using a good set of spring compressors. Get the spring good an squashed.

Step back - analyze, is there anything that keeps the ball joints, springs and shocks from seating properly.

Does the new ball joints look exactly, and I mean exactly like the old ones

They are riveted into the lower control arm. You can chisel them out OR...if u have air tools...u can grind the rivets off, them punch them thru the bottom of the lower control arm. Make sure you place GOOD, STRONG jackstands under the control arm. I believe that is a torsion bar suspension so be very careful. You'll also need to pop the upper ball joint out of the spindle to change the lower ball joint. Good luck.

SOURCE: Front end problem

I have a 95 Blazer that makes the same clunking noise when I make a slow turn in my driveway.I jacked it up today and removed the driver side tire.I looked behind the wheel assembly and noticed on the bottom of it there was some metal rubbed off where it meets a square metal piece on the frame.I took a 2lb hammer and smashed the metal piece off.I did this to the passenger side as well.NO MORE CLUNKING NOISES!!!

SOURCE: upper and lower ball joints

Jack the truck clear of the ground and let the wheel assembly hang. After you remove the tire place your jack under the lower control arm so it's firm. Remove the cotter pin, if you have one and loosen the big nut almost off. Wedge a "pickle fork" between the control arm and the spindle and give it a belt with a hammer until the ball joint pops. Raise the jack so you can undo the nut easily and separate the control arm and spindle.
The upper ball joint is riveted or bolted in. Grind the rivets or use a cold chisel and remove the ball joint. Clean up the area with some sandpaper, dirt , loose rust, etc.and put the new joint in. Put the spindle back on using the jack if necessary and put the nut back on and tighten.
The lower ball joint is pressed in. Tie the spindle out of the way and brace the lower control arm with some blocks or the jack if you have to. A few whacks with a hammer should pop the joint out. Clean the hole out lightly, just to remove loose rust and dirt. Put the ball joint, minus the grease fitting ,,in the hole and use the jack with a block of wood, to put it in place. You may have to fiddle with the spindle to make sure it is lined up. I've never had any trouble using a 1ton trolley jack and the weight of the truck to put the lower ball joint back in. Replace the nut and grease fitting.
The new ball joints will probably come with cotter pins, use them. Make sure the new joints are tight or they will wear the holes in the spindle. Don't forget to grease the new joints. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how to remove lower ball joint 2001 chevy silverado 2500 hd 4x4

The reason is they are pressed in and you have to press them out with a tool and some have a C clip that has to be removed you can go to schucks or autozone to rent the tool to press out and it has to be pressed back in.

How do you remove ball joints from lower control arm on a 1996 blazer s10 4x4(driver/front) .i went to salvage yard and removed but had to buy both arms, nuckle and tie rod. could not separate

By the time you drive the ball joints out of the control arms, they will not be worth driving back in and using, these parts need to be new,the used ones are worn also.

I've replaced many ball joints, and never used a torque wrench. Just make them tight. If yours are the type with cotter pins, then you make it tight and slip in the cotter pin.

Need torque settings on new upper ball joints

there's no torque setting that you go by because there aftermarket!

the factory ones are riveted in so you won't find it any where.

but when i do them and do them . witch is alot. i go by the feel of my air gun. if you are using just hand tools then i would use a 3/8 ratchet and tighten it as much as you can with that set-up , then get a 1/2 set-up and turn another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

if you need a number for a torque spec then depending on the grade bolt that came with the replacement ball joint. a 10mm bolt thats a 8.8 grade will only do 33 ft. lbs. before it will strech and then break. so no more than that! 8.8 is the most common for automotive grade hardware...

good luck man

4x4 chevy blazer popping sound when i turn wheels

Lube the tie rod ends, center link, upper and lower ball joints, and steering link. If noise is still the same, you probably have worn upper or lower control arrn bushings or a steering box problem.
