Car died while driving and making a squealing noise. Jump started, noise went away but battery light warning light on and unable to steer (hard).
Have you checked your serpentine belt??
With the squealing noise and the hard steering and stalling I would suspect that the power steering pump has failed and seized . As to all the lights problem if the belt is not working and it also drives the alternator then the battery light will come on also
Hard to steer and battery light on sounds like a broken belt
SOURCE: squeal which sounds like it's underneath the car.
Do you know if he turned the rotors when brakes were done?

If the rack is accessible you could try to bleed the rack lines to get fresh fluid to the rack. Sometimes this helps. If not accessible or bleeding doesn't help Yes the rack is due for replacement.

Hi Norman,
Sounds like the adjustment may not be correct on the power steering belt, with the tension not being enough, after you replaced the belt ?
Try giving it a little more tension, and go from there.
Hope I have been of help.
Good Luck !
John.

I would buy a cheap Votage meter from Walmart or Radio Shack and check voltage at the Battery. It should be 12.5 or more. Red positive lead of meter goes to red Battery wire. Black lead goes to black Battery wire on top of Battery.
You can check Alternator charging too, the same way The Voltage should jump to 12.8-13.5 volts. My Toyota would shut off and then start back up after moving the connection to the big fuses in the engine compartment Good Luck.

I don't know about hybrids, but on most vechiles, you check power steering fluid with engine running.

It's really strange that your car's steering was difficult after you jump-started it. Mine hasn't died, but it has been making a squealing noise like yours does. I can't figure out the problem, and it is getting harder to turn the steering wheel. I think I'm going to take my car to an auto repair shop to see if they can fix the issue. You might think about doing the same. http://www.futuretireaz.com/service-list...
