SOURCE: P0340 Code Camshaft Position Sensor

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor detects the position of the camshaft in order to identifiy when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. The CMP sensor is used for ignition timing in the Ford DIS igntion system, but not in the EDIS igntion system. Both DIS/EDIS use the CMP signal for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.

On the 3.0L vulcan engine, the CMP signal is generated by a single Hall-Effect magnetic switch, activated by a single "vane" spinning around by virture of a synchronized shaft which is driven by the camshaft.

The CMP sensor & synchronizer/shaft are located behind the intake manifold (i.e., back near the firewall on a Ranger) on the top of the cylinder block. If you just need to replace the sensor, it is a simple job of unplugging the electrical connector and removing the screws holding the sensor in place. Here is a sketch of the sensor to give you an idea what to look for:

Cam an crank shaft senser lockated on a4.3 2001 s10it keeps blowing ecm fuses as quick as you tdrn the key on.

The camshaft and crankshaft sensors are located on the engine of a 2001 S10 with a 4.3L engine. The camshaft sensor is typically located on the front of the engine, near the timing cover. The crankshaft sensor is typically located on the back of the engine, near the flywheel or flexplate.
If the ECM (engine control module) fuses are blowing as soon as you turn the key on, it could indicate a problem with one or both of these sensors. The camshaft and crankshaft sensors send signals to the ECM, which uses these signals to control the engine's timing and fuel injection. If the sensors are malfunctioning or sending incorrect signals, it can cause the ECM to blow fuses.
It's important to diagnose the problem correctly and not just replace parts without properly testing them, as this can lead to wasted time and money. A proper diagnosis can be made by a mechanic with a scanner that can read the codes and check the sensors' signals.
If the problem is caused by a faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensor, it will need to be replaced. It's important to use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts or parts from a reputable brand, as low-quality aftermarket parts may not function correctly and could cause further problems.
It's also a good idea to check all wiring, connectors, and fuses related to the sensor, as a damaged wiring or a faulty connector can also cause the problem.
Again, it is recommended to check the vehicle's warranty status and the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that the repair or replacement will not void the warranty.

My 99 ford ranger keeps blowing fuse # 27. Utube video said in column, scuffed wires to O/D buttonn dismantled column, no scuffed wires Where do I look next?

This fuse also powers , transmission control switch , DRL module , back up lights switch , digital transmission range sensor and the pulse vacuum hublock solenoid .
DRL module is daytime running lamp module . look at the transmission range sensor . Disconnect thing's one at a time till fuse no longer blows or disconnect everything an then replace fuse the connect thing's one at a time till it blows , then you found your problem circuit .

1997 chevy silverado pu 4x4 keeps blowing eng 1 fuse runs for about 15 seconds when fuse blows engine almost quits but keeps running and runs fine. The transmission jerks in overdrive going down the road...

ENG 1 - 20 amp fuse - under hood fuse Box . This fuse powers the O2 sensors heater circuits , Emission - purge an vent solenoids , mass air flow sensor , camshaft position sensor an A.I.R. intake recirculation relay - if your vehicle has it , L31 only
I would look for wires for o2 sensor melted on a exhaust pipe or manifold . Isn't your check engine light on ?
