This light appears to look like a gas pump hose/nozzle inserted into the fill tube, what is it? and how do I get it to disappear?
Im pretty sure that means your gas cap is loose. Try removing it, then tighten it until it clicks 2 or 3 times. Let me know if this helps :)
ok, i did some research. this is a link to the owners manual. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/co...
According to your description, it does show this as a "check gas cap" light. Alot of forums have people saying their dash lights go crazy after 80,000 miles or so. Some also said that as their batteries began to go bad, this would happen. Before disconnecting your battery, try going to autozone or wal-mart and have your battery tested. Let me know if this helps :)

tried that, also looked to see if there was some sort of sensor or maybe that small flap that keeps any backlash of fuel needed to be closed, cant really find anything that would cause it to come on except it being a Taurus. I read where I could disconnect the negative battery terminal, wait a few secs and reconnect to reset everything, what do you think? And thanks for the timely reply.
Cannot insert the fuel nozzle in the capless fuel fill
