Replaced clutch and slave cylinder in 2012 Kia sportage and car will not go in gear with engine running

Did you get all the air out of the hydraulic lines and master and slave cylinder, if not the clutch will not fully disengage and you can't go into gear. If this is the case have it vacuum bled.

If i dont pump the clutch a few times it is very hard to shift and the pedal goes clear to the floor until i pump it a couple of times

It is likely you have drawn air into the system. Check the clutch reservoir and refill if needed. Use DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. Bleed the system to restore clutch pedal. Check the clutch slave cylinder for leaks. If leaking, the slave cylinder will need to be replaced and the system bled again. Please let me know if you have questions.
