Do you feel the shifter moving anything? Possible the bolt came undone at the top of the transmission.

I would check the fluid level because low fluid can cause this problem. If the fluid is full, when was the last time the ATF was changed? If the fluid has not been changed regularly then you may have some sludge or particles fouling a valve in your valve body.

Have you checked the fluid level with the engine running ,and the vehicle in park?If the fluid level is fine,then have the transmission fluid changed,and filter.If this was at all helpful,please rate,thank you.

Unfortunately that sounds like your torque converter is out! There is no way to engage it so that you can drive it to a transmission shop and you will need a tow. DON'T take it to AAMCO or another chain shop or they will tell you it needs a complete rebuild and charge you accordingly. Pick a local transmission shop that has good ratings from the BBB.

linkage will probally have to be readjusted if your lucky, Get it check out before it gets worse, End does damage to the transmission, If it hasnt happen allready,From trying to force it into gear,
