Question about 2003 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Was driving my Ford Taurus (2003) around stopping getting out restarting and going until I went to Walmart and got groceries. Came out started car up shifted out of park and nothing. No forward, reverse or anything. Will go back into park but that is it. Fluid levels are fine and I have had no previous problems with transmission or shifter. Please help.

Do you feel the shifter moving anything? Possible the bolt came undone at the top of the transmission.

SOURCE: Ford Taurus won't go into gear but will go in reverse

I would check the fluid level because low fluid can cause this problem. If the fluid is full, when was the last time the ATF was changed? If the fluid has not been changed regularly then you may have some sludge or particles fouling a valve in your valve body.

Have you checked the fluid level with the engine running ,and the vehicle in park?If the fluid level is fine, then have the transmission fluid changed, and filter. If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

Unfortunately that sounds like your torque converter is out! There is no way to engage it so that you can drive it to a transmission shop and you will need a tow. DON'T take it to AAMCO or another chain shop or they will tell you it needs a complete rebuild and charge you accordingly. Pick a local transmission shop that has good ratings from the BBB.

I have a 2003 Ford Taurus it shuts off while driving. Now it won't start at all. I have all power.

it could be the cam sensor or crank both would bo this, also the dispack . but would say it was the crank sensor usually when they go you cannot start the engine. cam will start but will run ruff, and coil pack if they go after around 20 min it will work for abit then stop.

2003 Ford Taurus will periodically die while driving ! All warning lights will come on and engine will die. It will start again immediately after I put it in 'Park' and I can resume driving

This sounds like a bad connection, the problem is where, i have seen the wiring harness that goes over the transmission rub into wiring and cause engine to shut down and then restart again and run until the right movement is made to shut down again.

Try starting the car and do the wiggle test, start grabing wiring and moving around and see if engine dies out.

Drastic change in rpm on incline and dies while coasting

one of the things your car is famous for is bad fuel pumps ... if you frequently drive on a nearly empty tank then suspect that fuel pump .. they have a plastic impeller that depends on a continuous flow of fuel to keep cool .. if you are low on gas then it might capture some air as you go around corners or up a hill .. when that happens the impeller overheats and then you have problems until its replaced ..(not an easy job) ... you can have the fuel pump tested for voume and pressure .. if you never let the car get low on gas then that may not be the problem .. yoiu should also check or change the fuel filter ..

At stop light when I went to go car shut down. Started back up. what could be problem?

If the gas tank was low or a piece of dirt floated in the suction port, the engine could have died for a moment, but then restarted because the flywheel hadn't fully stopped. If you want to start looking for an answer in the electrical area, you will run around like crazy, spend money, and probably not pin it down.

It sounds like there is a good chance that either your fuel filter is getting clogged or your fuel pump might be worn or faulty. The first thing to do is check the fuel pressure.
If it is OK then you should check to see if it has spark.
I suspect a fuel problem, but it could also be a spark problem.

Sounds like it could be the throttle position sensor.
