My 2003 mitsubishi outlander AWD functions almost perfectly, but I can't shift up or down in drive. My drive light in my dash doesn't come on either. It will shift normally in drive mode, but it refuses to shift when I push it over to the +/- and try to shift up and down. It stopped functioning on top of a mountain in Colorado when the car was turned off and then turned back on. Also, my taillight that was just replaced has burned out, and my car shocks me when I get out. I also checked all the fuses in both boxes and they are all fine as far as I can tell. I'm stumped.
I had the same problem with my 05 outlander on the shifting problem. it had nothing to do with transmission, turned out there are wires below the shifter button. you have to take off the entire shifter panel, to get to the wires. when i did that, found one of the wires broken. just had to replace it, didn't cost to too much about less than $2. once the wire was replaced, the shifter worked in manual -/+ and the D light came back on.
There is a wire that is taken from the battery and run in insulation around the the vehicle to ports that uses live connection. the insulation on one of the lines may be broken and it making connection with the body metal of the car, bridging the ground. this is why youa re getting shocked. the problem needs some inspection of the wiring system all around, especially from the music and igntion wires to find the broken insulaton. the shifting of the gears in the =+/- mode is probably due to transmisson lubrication and other mishaps.

I checked both boxes. The one by the engine and the one under the steering column.
