Front passsenger tire won't steer just after a left turn

OK, i was at a 4 way stop, i turned left and when i went to go straight again. the front passeger tire was still turned @ 45 degrees while i can only steer the driver side wheel. I see a peice hanging down thats sitting on the inside of the tire rim as well. it looks like its the piece that steers the tire... as it still moves when i steer the wheel.. i had it towed to a cheap repair shop, what should i expect to be paying them as well?

SOURCE: Steering problem 1997 Dodge Ram

the half shaft does not need to go in a certain way, Just as long as you get it in all the way. when checking steering play to see where it is. It's best to leave the truck off. Turn ignition on but dont start to unlock steering column, Then look by driverside tire while your buddy just turns the wheel only the amount of free play it has. Just back and forth usually a few inchs. till it starts getting tight. "Look at the steering shaft and you will see it turning back and forth. Then Look at the output on the pitman arm. It should move back and forth with steering shaft. slower but at the same rate. If it does not. you need a gearbox. but read up because you can adjust some of them with a locknot and screw on top of box. If it's ok. look at the drag link. And down the line. eventually you'l find the problem. Any more Q e-mail me at [email protected]

SOURCE: ignition key wont turn

Make sure car is in park then try moving ignition switch back towards you and then forward as if trying to start it. That seemed to work for our 86 Dodge 600 auto.

SOURCE: My power steering is not working right. I looked

you will need to adjust the tension on your power steering unit. if the belt'stops' turning when you turn the wheel, thats a loose belt.if you are not mechanically inclined,i suggest you take it to your mechanic before it develops a steering rack problem.[costly] if you need a manual to show you, download the manual from fixya.com i have done many motors, timing belts on this vehicle. they are very meticulus and tight spaces to reach.in otherwords[knuckle busters] i have the manual in my library if you like,i would be happy to e-mail to you. thank you for choosing fixya.com look forward to assisting you in the future.

1997 jeep grand ch. has a clunking noise. when i turn the steering wheel. the noise sounds like a flat tire but louder.what could it be?

There is something wrong with one of your tires. Take it to a tire repair place soon before it leaves you stranded. My guess: a tire has a big lump on it which will blow soon.

Front passenger tire stopped turning while driving

This is a broken tie rod and it probably the ball joint that has failed.

One of my tires is straight and the other one is pointed outwards. the steering wheel is sideways as like im turning

The easiest way to do this is straighten the steering wheel first Brandon. Next is to walk to the back of the truck and eye ball the left front tire from a looking from the side of the back tire. If that one is straight ahead before or after you adjust it, Now check the passenger side the same way. When both look straight, now take a tape measure and measure the distance from the center tread on the right front tire to the center of the left front tire.Say its 61", now do the same behind the front tires. It might say 58". You want to end up with the front measurement being 1/4 of an inch smaller then the back.

Stuck with this problem

The front axle isnt disengaging completely. You need to probably replace the vaccum solinoid located right above your distributor on the firewall. To test you simply disconnect the two vaccum lines and splice them together. Then turn the 4wd on and see if all is normal.
