The knock sensor changes the timing so internal engine damage won't happen. If you bypass it or disconnect it you risk a catastrophic engine failure.

A knock is not good. Does it change when you put the car in gear? Is it loud enough to hear at idle? If it changes in gear then it is a possible cracked flywheel. If not you can idle the car pull the plug wires 1 at a time to see which one changes the sound. This will tell you which cyl has the problem. If it changes pulling the wires then it is an internal engine problem, get ready to spend some money, sorry. Good Luck.

01 GMC 1500 v8 z71 ...missing & not shifting on

The transmission has been electronically controlled for several years.
The miss could cause the knock sensor to set a code, but the sensor will not cause the miss. The knock sensor signals the computer and the computer tries to cut back on ignition timing to stop the knock. The sensor can set a code if it is a spark knock or something mechanical.

Need an emissions schamatic for my 1984 K10 silverado 305 engine

Unfortunately, there are 13 variations for this engine and year. Was this truck sold or modified for high altitude? Was it sold in California or modified to meet the CA emission standards? Does it have a manual or auto transmission? After narrowing down based on answers to these questions, there are still alternative configurations depending on the particular equipment, so look carefully at the diagrams to see which components are used on your engine. Sometimes you can match the 3 letter code for the diagram to letters in the VIN or a sticker in the engine compartment. Please let me know if you have questions.

What is the air pump for on the 1997 ford 5.8l v8 for and what will happen if it is not hooked up to anything and is bypassed on the surpentine belt?

The air pump injects air into the exhaust manifolds to reduce emissions. If bypassed, the vehicle still runs but you will fail the emissions test and the pump will freeze up if not used. I don't recommend disconnecting anything having to do with the air I breath.

I need to find a fuel pump relay on a 1989 chevy caprice

The relay for a 305 V8 is under the hood on the passenger side fender. It is a black 2" cube hooked onto a bracket. There is a red test wire and clip coming from it. You can bypass the relay by attaching a short wire from the clip to the positive terminal on the battery. Have some one kneel by the gas tank while you test the relay. If it comes on (the pump in the tank will buzz) then the relay is bad. A new one is $10 at the parts store. Just swap it out.
