SOURCE: Defroster & floor blowers don't work but front facing vents do

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.

SOURCE: vent selector inop

U have either lost the vacuum to the mode selector switch (in the dash control) or the vacuum mode selector switch is leaking in the ac/heater control in the dash, u can usually hear a hiss if it is leaking. the vacuum source is the engine, a small hose runs through the firewall on the passenger side to the switch from the eng vacuum source.

SOURCE: ac only blows out floor and defrost vents 95 camaro

Could it be a possibility that your switch is broken to that setting. Try popping off the knob with a screw driver, taking pair of pliers and twisting the knob. Feel for it switching settings.

SOURCE: 1981 corvette air conditioner ventilation

hi

this is because
1.there is some blockage in the line comin up and to sides.
2.the selector switch is not properly functioning. the flaps got stuck and it may allows only air to pass through the floor vents.

Heat/cool comes out of floor and defrost but not vent setting

There are 2 vacuum lines that control your hvac system, one of them is either disconnected or dry-rotted and needs replaced. I was able to fix it by purchasing a 3-way splitter for a vacuum line, bought some rubber vacuum line and spliced into the cruise-control vacuum line. Worked like a charm. If it's not that, you could have a vacuum leak anywhere alone the line from the intake manifold to the evap canister

2004 trailblazer dash vents fail to blow heat. All other vents work normally. I could not locate a vacuum hose that I thought might operate the upper dash vents. what do you suggest? Thank you.

this vehicle has electronic acuators that move the doors and do not use vacuum. the mode door actuator is bad causing this problem. there is a defrost acuator that works the defrost position and a mode door that works floor/vent operation. the defrost moves and diverts airflow up defrost vwents this is why you can still have defrost and floor.

Why won't my heater shut off? I can dial the fan down to the lowest blower setting, but it won't shut off at the Off button. The temp. is therefore set at 83 degrees. The modes work i.e., floor, defrost,...

If the ventilation system is set on any setting other than off (I'm talking about the vent, heat, defroster, ac, etc) the fan motor will automatically run at low unless yo select a higher setting. To get the fan OFF, turn off the ventilation system by selecting OFF.

On a 1997 ford expedetion air does not come out of front vent, comes out of defrost vents and from vent on the back part of expediton.

vacuum hose is loose somewhere. the vacuum from the engine pulls the actuator that switches between vent, floor, and defrost. good place to start looking is near any kind of splitter or coupling in the vacuum lines. one splitter is usually just under the hood mounted on the firewall. usually on the driver or passenger side, not usually middle.

When a/c is running why would air stop comming through vent and go through defrost?

The panels (or flaps, if you prefer) that are used to direct the air to the windshield, the panel, or the floor are operated by engine vacuum to be moved one way, and spring tension to move the other. When you step on the gas to climb a hill, or move out from a stop, the vacuum goes away (it is generated by the engine trying to get air, and the closed throttle preventing it from doing so), and the panels are moved into their rest position by the springs. So the air direction can change until the vacuum is reestablished to properly configure the ventilation directing panels.

On my Aries K wagon, the air comes out the defrost when I step on the gas.

Defrost blows constantly? How do i fix it?

does it blow through the defrost vent only when you switch to vent/floor or does it blow through defrost and vent/floor? is it a switch that is just electric or a manual lever that you slide? the manual type will have that problem if the diverter or the linkage behind the lever(in the dash behind the panel......may be able to access underneath) becomes broken or disconnected so that the air is diverted to defrost regardless where you move it.if you can get to it, you will see what is broken or maybe a fastenerr fell off.

If I am reading correctly you are hearing the vent doors moving to redirect the airflow to the vents you choose. This is normal and can be more noticeable if the blower fan is on, putting air pressure against the doors.
