Gas pump shuts off repeatedly when gassing car

I know this means I need to use an air compressor to blow out a valve, as it may be clogged. Or I need to test the EVAP Canister to see if it needs to be replaced. However, I cannot find the EVAP Canister for the life of me!!! I am not very familiar with cars. Please give me a detailed description of where I can locate the EVAP Canister? Thank you!

It is nothing to do with the canister or associated pipework.

There would be no problem if the filler pipe entered the tank at the highest point but mostly they don't. Realistically the problem is like filling an old-fashioned teapot through the spout if the lid was sealed down tight and there was no vent - once the level has risen to a point equivalent to the top of where the spout enters the teapot a pressure begins to build under the top that resists further filling.

To overcome this problem in the fuel tank and to allow complete filling, the high points have a vent and each vent is joined together by a hose that is terminated at a vent in the filler pipe at a height above the tank top.

When fuel blowback happens during filling the cause is mostly one or more of those vents or hoses is blocked or squashed or otherwise damaged...

SOURCE: Hi I have a 98 gmc sierra 1500 with 5.7 vortec,

It's hard to find these small leaks. If you have a vacuum pump, there are a few tests you can run on the components of the system. See below.

TESTING

Vapor Canister
See Figure 1

  1. Apply a length of hose to the lower tube of the purge valve assembly and attempt to blow air through it. There should be little or no air should passing into the canister.

If the canister is equipped with a constant purge hole, a small amount of air will pass into the canister.
  1. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply a vacuum of 15 in. Hg (51 kPa) to the control vacuum (upper) tube. If the vacuum does not hold for at least 20 seconds, the diaphragm is leaking. Replace the canister.
  2. If the diaphragm holds vacuum, attempt to blow air through the hose connected to the PCV tube while vacuum is still being applied. An increase of air should be observed. If no increase is noted, the canister must be replaced.

Fig. Fig. 1: Cross-section of the vapor canister

Fuel Tank Pressure Control Valve

  1. Attach a length of hose to the tank side of the valve assembly and try to blow air through it. Little or no air should pass into the canister.
  2. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply vacuum equivalent to 15 in. Hg (51 kPa) to the control vacuum tube. If the diaphragm does not hold vacuum, the diaphragm is leaking. Replace the valve.
  3. If the diaphragm holds vacuum, attempt to blow air through the hose connected to the valve while vacuum is still being applied. Air should pass. If no air is noted, the valve must be replaced.

Thermostatic Vacuum Switch
  1. With engine temperature below 100°F (38°C), apply vacuum to the manifold side of the switch. The switch should hold vacuum.
  2. Start and continue to run the engine until the engine temperature increases above 122°F (50°C). The vacuum should drop off.
  3. Replace the switch if it fails either test.

Sounds like vent tube or vapor canister is plugged. Try compressed air into vent tube. If that doesn't cure, vapor canister filter is plugged.

Will a clogged ac condensor cause high pressure on the low side?

no
the gas from the compressor is pumped to the condenser to be turned back to liquid to go to the TX valve to be released and be turned back to gas
if the condenser is blocked , the gas is turned into liquid by the high pressure generated by the compressor in that line
from the condenser on there will be low pressure as the compressor forms a vacuum back to the condenser
the low side is the hose from the evaporator to the compressor
the high side id the hose from the compressor to the condenser

Air condisoner stop working on Toyota corolla89years

It may have leaked out all its Freon gas. If it uses Freon it will not be able to be re-gassed as Freon puts a hole in the ozone layer of the atmosphere. It is expensive to get an air-conditioner re gassed if it uses ozone destroying gas as the new gas is different and the air conditioner needs to be modified to run the newer gas if the Corolla is a older model. Could be compressor has gone faulty. but to replace it will mean it will have to be re-gassed.

Why is it that when i turn on my ac my car idol drops low and the car turns off

If you gassed the ac system your self then it mat be overfull and that is why it is not working and if you did no check for leaks (why else would need gas) then it may be all pumped out . The AC compressor takes a lot of power to drive and all cars loose around 300rpm's when it cuts in so if you have an idle too low then it will drop below needed idle rpm's . Most cars have a compensating unit the raises the idle rpm when the ac is working so check out your system for a faulty unit there.

Ac blows warm

was it regassed when you changed the compressor? a/c units can be quite difficult, they have certain pressures inside and the valves will not engage the compressor if its not gassed right. on the pipe running from the condensor to the compressor you should see an outlet/inlet valve, you can use your key or a small screwdriver to depress a valve in it to see if its got pressure, just give it a quick push to see if pressure comes out so you dont reverse the valve inside the system and pop the rubber seal. good way to indicate if theres gas and pressure. its like your tyre if your releasing air out of it if this helps.

Ac not working, check engine light constantly on, compressor cuts in for 10 seconds then cuts out.

Either your AC system has lost gas which means it has a leak and the pressure switch on the low pressure side is cutting the compressor out, or you have a blockage which is causing very high pressures and the high pressure switch is cutting the compressor out. The blockage could be anywhere but I would suspect either the receiver drier (which is just like a filter for the refrigerant) or the thermal expansion valve or orifice tube. If any of these parts are blocked, they will have to be replaced which means de-gassing the system, fitting the new parts and then evacuating and re-gassing the system. If the TX (thermal expansion) valve is blocked, have the system flushed and replace the receiver drier BEFORE the system is re gassed. I do not know if your check engine lamp being on is related to the a/c issue but once the a/c is fixed, if the lamp gos out, you know it is..

A/C does not blow cold air.

Hi. It will need to be re-gassed at ur local air con place but b4 u take it there make sure the compressor is working when u turn ur air con on. If the clutch on the compressor does not engage its a sure sign it is out of gas.

Air condition won't cool.fan blows warm air.

sounds like the air-con gas is low switch on air-con a nd check to see if the compressor clutch is pulling in if not reove h/p dust cap on the aircon pipe press schroder valve to see if gas escapes if not will need re-gassing even if you get gas out without a pressure gauge it is hard to tell if the right anount of gas is in the system.

Ac not working

if you by passed the relay and clutch engaged then this shows that pump works ??but was it getting cold on and around the restrictor valve where the pipes enter the cab is normally a valve block but american monsters use a valve in the pipe for cooling and if its not getting cold their or blowing cold inside cab then system needs re-gassing with R 134 gas if its an older system with R 12 gas then it will need to have adaptors fitted to valve connections and refilled with R134 gas.The main cause of A/C system loosing gas is porosity in the rubber flexible pipes also the back seal on the pump.Or just regass and put a leak stopper in the system
