I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, trans slipping that I have been towing

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy that I have been towing behind a motorhome. It is 4 wheel drive and I can put the trans into neutral and tow on ground. When I put the trans back into 2 wheel drive it makes noise. Now the trans seems to be slipping. The fluid seems OK in color but it is a little low. Will this cause slipping?
Thanks, Jim

Low fluid can cause slipping. (depends upon how low) Most manufacturers post "safe" tow speeds. These are generally ignored. (not good). I recommend towing with driveshafts removed and where driveshaft has a "slip yoke" you install a yoke from a scrapyard and wire it to the tailshaft so it stays in place (keeps oil in and dirt out) Although you can't just detach the tow-bar and drive, it eliminates any possibility of trans damage, since the transmission cannot turn. (most use oil from pump to keep gearsets cool...when towing, pump is not pumping and over time and distance it can damage trans internals.)
Hope your problem is just low fluid and not a rebuild...keep in mind what I said though.

I also have a 2003 GMC Envoy and towed it behind our motorhome. We also experienced the same issue .... slipping with the transmission. It turned out we 'burned' out the transmission because of the way it was towed. According to our mechanic, we needed to either have a lube pump or driveshaft disconnect installed. I was told that 2004 models and higher have a N selection for the 2HI, 4Hi, 4AWD 4Low crank case whereas our 2003 do not.

I have an 03 GMC envoy sle 4x4. Trans fluid is overfilled. Can that b the cause of the slight slip in the tranny and also why my 4x4 isn't engaging?

Over filling can cause foaming of the fluid which could cause the slipping but it might not be the issue in your case and it is doubtful that is causing the 4 wheel drive issue.

Tranny slips when warm, runs fine cold, why?

That's a sign of hardened seals. They're stiff and leak when cold and soften and seal better as they warm up When did you change fluid last? You can try a fluid flush and a bottle of Lubeguard supplement. But really, start saving for a transmission rebuild.

Can a 2008 4wd (4 x 4) GMC Envoy be flat towed? If so, what is the procedure? Will it register miles on the odometer?

any 4x4 should be trailered, as dammage to the trans or transfer can result, if you have to tow i recommend you remove the drive shafts

How do i tow a 2006 mazda6 behind a motorhome

You'll have to put it on a dolly. Automatic transmissions do not take kindly to being towed because they don't get lubricated. The oil pump in an automatic trans runs off the input shaft, so the engine has to be running. Hope this helps.

We would like to know if we can tow this car behind our motorhome with tow bar by just puting the trans in neutral.

dont tow car long distance in neutral. it burns up the transmission. if its rear wheel drive just disconnect the drive shaft. if front wheel drive you need to have the front wheels lifted while towing long distance

Can a 2002 pontiac aztec be used as a tow dingy behind a motorhom

Do not tow it with any wheels on the ground it will burn up the trans and transfer case. If you use a dolly on the front remove the rear driveshaft.
