I have a 2004 Dodge Ram with a Hemi and the Scan tool I own will not communicate with it and the local parts store pulled a code for me showing a bad EGR valve, yet all my literature does not even show the truck having this code or an EGR valve for that matter....

  • Anonymous Jun 10, 2009

The code was a PO406 for the EGR showing a high voltage signal. I had just put new plugs and wires on it and I am starting to wonder if I have gotten into a wiring harness. I have seen comments about the wiring under the plugwire harness getting damaged and wearing through the harnesses.

My 2004 Ram has the same issue. Check engine light and the truck sometimes will stall out when breaking. The EGR valve is about $60 at NAPA and its not hard to install, i think four bolts hold it in. Then undo your battery for about 10 minutes and the check engine light should reset.

04 DODGE Ram hemi cylinder 3 misfire

Check engine compression and compare. then test running engine compression most engines have about 130-170 cranking compression and about 90-110 running compression. OR bring that cylinder to its Top Dead Center compression stroke apply air to the cylinder and check to see where the air is going open throttle plate bad intake valve, from exhaust pipe bad exhaust valve, from oil cap piston rings.

Codes truck not starting

Where did these codes come from? They are not pcm codes. PCM codes start with P and are followed by 4 digits. Most auto parts stores will read these for little or no charge.

The electronic throttle control light is flashing in my 2004 1500 5.7 Hemi truck, won't accelerate but does turn on, where should i start?

The 1st thing that MUST be done is to have the electronic engine control system computer (called the "PCM") scanned for fault codes, this gives you the starting point for diagnosis od why the warning/fault light is on. You can get the scan for fault codes done for free at any Autozone or similar discount auto parts store in your area. Aamco Transmission does the scan for free as well.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 hemi. some times the engine light comes on and stays on for a day or so and then turns off. i checked the water and oil and everything seems fine. there are 40000 miles on the...

You will need to have it scanned to find what is triggering the light. It will be stored in memory codes. I don't normally recommend it, but auto zone will scan it for free.

Unable to remove fan from water pump

Remember, fan has a reverse thread. Righty-tightey, lefty-loosey does not apply. You need a clutch fan wrench. (available at your local auto parts store.)

Blinker showing up on right side when left side is signaled to come on on my 2004 Dodge Ram Hemi

either the multifunction switch is bad or the wiring harness for the blinker is worn threw in the steering column, take it to a shop before you burn up the wirng harness, even if it's fuesd it can still melt thewires and cost a ton of money to fix.

CODE P0406 APEARS '04 DODGE HEMI

P0406 is the EGR valve. It sits on the right front of the engine. Just remove the two bolts on the tube and the two bolts on the valve itself and there you go. Reset the lamp with a scan tool or by disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes and retest.
