SOURCE: car idles but sputters and stalls while driving.

You need a tune-up. Sometimes things slip "out of synch", and need to be put right again. It could be any one of a number of things, but all are minor. It could be, for instance, the fuel mixture, but most likely it is the timing. If you have a service manual and are a bit of a handyman, it is not a hard problem to fix, as long as you carefully follow all the instructions in the manual If you aren't game to try it yourself, the best option is to take it to a mechanic. Don't panic, because it is not a job that will cost you a fortune, but having it done will make your car run like new again. Please don't forget to rate this answer.

SOURCE: sputters

To start off has the car had a good thorough tuneup lately? Plugs, wires, coils, fuel and air filter?

If it's happening going uphill, or when you hit the gas to accelerate hard, it's very likely a clogged fuel filter. Change that out and you should be OK.

SOURCE: 1989 Ford aerostar van sputters and stalls.

that would be a fuel problem. either your fuel filter is clogged up, or you carburator needs a good cleaning.

Just had the 2000 Buick oil changed on Friday, been driving fine then just now kind of sputtered like it wasn't getting gas, after turning it off and then turned it back on ran fine. Could this be fuel...

i would check the fuel filter before anything else. a fuel filter will block fuel flow if dirty, then when shut off the dirt settles to bottom of filter. upon restart its fine till the dirt gets in the filter again. it wll also cause car to bog down if dirty, especially on hills or grades. it will be slow on take off and may stall out at a stop. if bad enough. have a good day !!

Engine stalls when turning left hand corners.

turn left, sputter, sputter, pop! sputter, sputter..............vvveeerrrooommm !? WTF? Crazy 91 Honda CRX just became a death car tryin to get through an intersection. Checked all my wires and ended up in the gas tank tryin to put the fuel pump back together. POS pump is in the left side of the tank!? So if you got a few miles on it the fuel pump screen can fall off. Turn left and the last 1/8th of a tank goes to the right leaving a 3/4 ton chevy in your girlfrends lap...well almost. I still got the CRX, the girl got droped off at the car wash cuz she smelled like poo.

Car spits and sputters and stalls after driving a while

sounds like a fuel pump problem, with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume, try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time, hope this helps

Engine stalls while driving. Fuel deprivation?

I am having the exact same problem with my VW Touareg @60,000 miles. Two weeks ago and again today it sputters and stalls shortly after starting. I brought it into the shop and they could not reproduce the problem and said it was fine. Also, they had no ideas when I describes the problem. Anyone know what it going on? I am out of warranty.

Continous surging and stalling

Per your description, I would suspect a fuel pump issue. When the fuel pump is running the pump impeller heats up. On an older pump the impeller can begin to seize up and momentarily stops and starts. Some times it just stops and has to cool down for a couple of minutes, then is ok for a while.
To test this theory, when the engine stalls and stops, your mechanic can use a rubber mallet and hit the bottom of the gas tank, this will free the pump impeller and the car will start again.
Or, have him install a fuel pressure gauge and go for a drive. If the pressure begins to fluctuate and drop, you know the pump is causing the issue.
Good luck, let me know.
