The ABS system always is engaged when the brakes are applied. If you are talking about the ABS light coming on then it is a little bit of a different story. If the light has come on at all there will always be a code stored. I would take it to a shop that has a scan tool to read ABS lights and ask them what the computer is saying. This is the only true way to get this problem fixed.

Can i un-A.B.S. MY 1997 ford falcon futura wagon,

the ABS is a system that allows wheels that have stopped turning under brakes to turn again momentarily
the brakes work through the abs system normally at all times from the booster and it is only when a wheel stops turning that the electric motor in the abs unit provides pressure to a line to compensate for the fluid returned by the valve in that line that was opened when the wheel stopped
you can disconnect power to the abs ( fuse ,relay) and the brakes will still operate normally except that when in extreme braking situations the wheels will lock up and steering control will be the same as pre abs cars ( side skid and not able to steer around an object)
there may be a abs light come on but you will have to live with that
best talk with an accredited brak specialist shop as they may have an idea as to what can be done to bypass the abs
remember that the abs is part of the vehicle safety requirements and in by passing it or making it inoperable you may be making the vehicle un-roadworthy for the purposes of inspection and insurance.

Replaced front brakes ABS light comes on and

Hi:
The ABS light on means an ABS malfunction. You should be able to have a auto parts store scan your car and find out what code is tripped, for free, but my guess is that one of your front wheel speed sensors is out of whack, or dirty or something.
When the light is on, your normal brakes work fine, but you have no ABS, so your car will take longer to stop in emergency situations.

ABS kicks in at strange times or brakes fail.

You may have a bad wheel speed sensor.

Does your speedometer work ok? There is a sensor on top of your rear differential that provides a signal to both the abs and the computer(speedometer uses the signal from the computer) This sensor goes out pretty common.

2001 chevy s10 blazer abs light stays .

The abs is a add on for the brakes that when the tires come into a skid or slid they wont lock up..Your brakes will still work great with the abs disabled but your brakes will lock up if you push on the brakes hard enough to stop.Mainly abs works in slippery conditions not letting the tires lock up and keep the car rolling instead of making it slide..But no effect of the brakes will happen..Just make sure your fluid is full and there are no leaks and if you want to get them check you can stop by your local Auto Zone and they will scan your car for free and tell you what sensor is bad..I hope this was helpful to you...Have a great night

Antilock brakes not funtioning properly on "hard" stops

Yes, I never did like ABS brakes because of this. What you have experienced is the ABS system working as it is designed to do. I know, it doesn't seem like you should still be moving after slamming on the brakes, but here is how it works;
When you apply a fast and hard pedal and the ground beneath you is wet the wheels stop at different times. There are sprockets mounted to the rear of the rotors, with magnetic sensors that monitor the wheel info. for all four wheels mounted next to the brake calipers. On a hard stop when the sensor detects one wheel stopping and another still going, these sensors send "pulses" to each wheel until the vehicle has stopped without the brakes having to lock up. The pulsiing is what you experienced and is a normal part of the ABS function.
Please rate this and let me know if it helped.
