If the welsh plug is in a position where by removing several items ( manifold --engine mount etc and you can get enough space to swing a hammer to install the new plug. then it can be done with difficulty. If the plug faces the fire wall then unfortunately the motor has to be pulled . The only advantage is that it is just not the one plug because if one is rusted out the rest will not be far behind so it is an opportunity to do the lot.. IT is a good reason to always ensure that the coolant conditioner is always changed regularly and kept up to percentage required.

SOURCE: Freeze Plug Leak on my 1996 GMC Jimmy

i would hardly call this repair simple or inexpensive. the part itself yes the labor probably not. i have made this repair myself to my 97 jimmy if you have 4 wheel drive the transfer case up front makes this repair next to impossible from the underside of the car plus the fact that it is behind the motor mount means the the mount must be removed. this involves raising or removing the motor. simple? on a car of this age you will probably find (as i did) the motor mounts are damaged might as well replace them too the parts are fairly inexpensive. also look into replacing all the plugs so you dont have to do this again in a few years. oh yea use the proper antifreeze mix in your radiator water is what rusts out the plugs

SOURCE: oil leak on manifold passenger side - v6 4motion

Get a can of Gunk and clean the engine according to the directions there (please do read them), with attention to the area around where the oil leak is.  Once you get the motor squeaky clean, you will be able to trace back to where the oil is coming from.  It may be running down the underside of a hose so you will need to look carefully.  You can do all this in the driveway.  You will probably have to let the engine get to operating temp before it will start leaking.

1991 (4 cylinder) Toyota Camry freeze plug problem

the price is determined by how much you have to remove in order to gain access to the freeze plug to replace it the freeze plugs themselves are just a couple of dollars but could be several hundred to replace due to gaining access to replace you also have freeze plugs sometimes that are on back of engine and require you to either remove engine or transmission to replace also keep in mind that normally if a freeze plug is leaking it is due to a neglected cooling system that is now full of rust that may have to be flushed out

I have anti-freeze leaking from somewhere near the back and bottom of the motor, not sure if it is exactly the motor or a fluid line or what...what could the problem be?

Well fortunately core/freeze plugs rarely leak anymore so the most likely cause of your leak is a heater hose at the passenger side firewall. Place a piece of clean cardboard under the area and run the engine. Watch closely the two heater hoses coming from the heater control valve and into the firewall(heater core), I'm sure you will find your leak up there. Thanks, Dana

How to replace rear freeze plug

You will have to pull the trans to get to the freeze plug. Take a punch and knock one side of the plug in then pull the rest of the plug out with plires.Take sand paper and clean the hole, Apply permatex sealant around the new plug, and drive it in with a socket that will just fit inside the freeze plug. You should replace them both while you are there. Good Luck

1992 ford f-150 flareside coolant leak back of block

The blocks ususally have a petcock type drain plug on the sides. Check for those, they may have gone cheap and simply put a brass plug in the hole...usually mid block below the cylinder heads.
