I just replaced the starter two years ago. I just replaced the battery 5 months ago. I have headlights and they are bright, so thought that kinda ruled out the alternator.
It will crank but will not turn over. We have had so much rain lately, I thought something might have gotten wet. But after a couple of days of sunshine and 80 degree temperatures, it still won't start.
Are there any fuses under the hood or under the dash that would prevent it from starting if they blew?

Hey Mona, 1st thing u should check is the battery. Most auto parts stores offer a free check of your battery and your charging system. This will tell if the battery is bad, or if the system (alternator) isn't charging the battery. Yes, it could be a starter problem, but since yours is only 14 months old, it should be ok. Let me know what they say, I'll help some more if u need it. Also, how do the battery terminals look (where the cables clamp on to the battery)? Is there corrosion build up (powdery deposits) on the cables and battery terminals (where the cables clamp on the battery?) If there is, u may just have to remove the cables, clean them up w/ sandpaper, coat w/grease or vaseline to prevent future corrosion. It could be as simple as that to fix, so check this 1st.

Get yourself a decent voltmeter and start checking everything from the battery down. Make sure your ground and positive cables are clean and well connected to both block and battery (clean inside where they touch, as well as clean on the outside. Your ignition switch should be on top of column, under the dash. I think your'e trying to remove key switch, which will not get you anywhere.Sitting for long periods promotes corrosion, I would look for loss of electrical contact before looking for failed components.

I wont list this as a solution, but it seems that working in the area of the alt may have moved around some wiring...the alt may be OK but perhaps an adjacent wire (maybe a ground) is not well connected. Also check crimped on wire loops on alt connectors..they like to corrode at the crimp where it crushes on the actual wire.

i had a similar problem with a gmc jimmy and changed ignition module several times before i ended up buying a new distributor and changing it out and have had no problem since 2 years ago
SOURCE: Jeep Cherokee starting issue
On an intermittent start problem like this you may be having a starter solenoid issue or your wire on the starter from the key switch may be loose. Or you may have a corroded battery cable or the safety neutral switch may be going bad. Is it a automatic? If it were it would be the clutch safety switch going out. So do the simple things first. Clean cables like the first guy said if that does not fix it locate the starter and if you have jumper cables the next time it does it put the positive lead of the jumper cable on the Positive battery terminal and the other touch to the starter wire with the key in the run position where the big wire on the starter is, if you here it spin it means the starter motor is ok if it don't it is bad or the connection on the starter is loose. Also a bad battery cable could cause this from the battery to the starter next put a small wire into the end of the positive jumper cable and touch the S terminal on the starter if you here a solid clung it means the solenoid is good. So check the connections on the starter and tighten the starter bolts as they may have worked loose and don't have a good ground. So if you want more as stance just post on my question and I will hell p more and if this is more informative please rate

I appreciate the info. Only problem is, I'm a female and don't have a spark tester, gauge. I just had the fuel filter and belt replaced back in March. But not the timing belt. I didn't hear anything slapping the last time I drove it which was a week ago.
