Could be a variety of things, but don't rule out spark plugs. happened to an old car i had, once i got the car cruising at a speed it was fine, but when speeding up it kinda chugged and would accelerate inconsistently. Almost lost a spark plug down into the cylinder, cuz when i removed it it was cracked almost in half, just barely connected. was surprised the car was running as good as it was, considering..

also could it potentially be a sensor like an o2 sensor or something? acceleration dumps more fuel in for combustion, so it would need to more oxygen to keep the fuel : oxygen ratio to spec. the sensor went so bad on my car it actually would flood the engine and stall. best of luck!

PROBLEM: LACKING POWER, AND EXPERIENCING SLUGGISH ACCELERATION

Guessing here, might help to know the make/model/year/engine.
Sounds like you're running in "limp mode" because one of your sensors is either bad or simply not hooked up. Perhaps TPS (throttle position sensor) or MAF (Mass AirFlow)

My 1997 Jimmy runs fine in idle when I take off the vechile is fine until it reaches 20 mph it won't accelerate and the rpms increase up to 3000 but no speed. What's wrong it's a 4 wheel d

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

You in the ball park. I would also check the idle control valve. Also, if you have not done so, check and/or change your fuel filter. GL.
