SOURCE: Where is the location of the ECM on a 1998 ford

ECM (Engine Control Module) is the old name to the new PCM
(Powertrain Control Module) denomination; this unit performs many functions on your car. The module accepts information from various engine sensors and computes the required fuel flow rate necessary to maintain the correct amount of air/fuel ratio throughout the entire engine operational range.

Based on the information that is received and programmed into the PCM's memory, the PCM generates output signals to control relays, actuators and solenoids.

The module is mounted under the hood on the firewall. On 493-94 models, it is mounted low on the firewall, near the left-hand fender (drivers side). On 495-99 models, it is mounted high on the firewall offset to the right-hand side of center.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the PCM by loosening the connector retaining bolt, then pulling the connector from the module.
  3. Remove the two nuts and the PCM cover.
  4. Remove the PCM from the bracket by pulling the unit outward.
To install:
  1. Install the PCM in the mounting bracket.
  2. Install the PCM cover and tighten the two nuts.
  3. Attach the wiring harness connector to the module, then tighten the connector retaining bolt.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps (remember comment and rated this).

These are not very good but all I could find. The cam mark is about the 7 o'clock position. I cannot see the crankshaft marks in the side pic.

How to time a 2.3 1995 ford ranger

you have to loosen the tension bolt on the distributor and turn it left or right a few degrees while using a timing gun. stop adjusting after the line on the harmonic balancer lines up with the 0 peg. On a side note, being you have a 95 the ecm may control the timing on your vehicle, if it does and your timing is still off your ecm could be bad.

Pushbutton 4x4 problem.

The module is located behind the drivers side rear wheel "interior" panel cover. Not likely that the module is at fault. There is a small plastic ring that fits around a little metal stud on the electrical plate located on the transfer case side of that little motor that you replaced. If that little plastic ring is missing or smashed then that electrical plate rotates just a little too far and then it no longer touches where it should. Its like the power comes on when you first replace it but never again after that. Take that little motor off again and make sure that plastic ring is intact.

2003 Ford Ranger Heat Sensor

if you are referring to the coolant temp sensor and not the coolant temp switch, then yes, this sensor tells the ecm what temp the engine is at and the ecm delivers the correct amount of fuel to the vehicle. The switch in most cases just sends the signal to the guage or light.
