I didn't see an s15 in that model year, in my database?
If the speedometer works but the tach doesn't, I think something is wrong with instrument cluster?
GM has had a problem with fuel gage sending units. The sending units are not hard wired to instrument cluster, they send signal to pcm, the pcm sends serial data to instrument cluster, telling the cluster the gage settings.
It may be possible to use different size resistors in place of the fuel level sending unit, to see if fuel gage reacts properly to different resistors, if the gage reacts properly, then I think the problem is the fuel gage sending unit.
the tach measures the RPM's of the engine. not the speed of the car. in idle park you canrev the engine and the tach will move but you are going no where.. ok.. not sure if this is what you are asking about. but if you think the tach is reading wrong the best way to find out is to attach a tach measurement tool and compare.
Problem can be one of two things, a bad sending unit in the gas tank or a defective stepper motor in the instrument cluster. All gauges, speedo and tach are driven by stepper motor that have been known to fail. A technician using a scan tool can determine if the tank sending unit is working.
hi, sounds like a possible fuel sending unit has gone bad, malfunctioning. the fuel sending unit for your vehicle is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. this is a very common problem with many ford and gm vehicles. you should have diagnosed before any repairs, but i would bet on the fuel sending unit being the problem.
can be the cluster unit or ignition module that is at fault. clusters are exchanged units at any cadillac dealer. the ignition module sends the signal for the reading on the tach gauge
Usually. if it is a sending unit problem the sending unit will either read full all the time or empty all the time. If your's is reading correctly it's more likely that you have a short in the wiring, somewhere between the light and chime and the sending unit.
Good question! My Cabrio's odometer works only when the outside temps are really cold... that means about freezing temp. My VW repair shop guru guy says that the Cabriolet is notorious for this failing. Since the odometer is driven through a small gearbox via the speedo cable, I suspect the odometer "transmission" is mostly kaput. The tach is also mechanically driven so it also may have a semi-functional cable. The only way to really know is to pull the cable and check it for damage. As far as the trans goes have you tested it for codes?
