If it is leaking at the oil filter the previous rubber gasket may have stuck to the block. When the new oil filter was installed then the gasket was doubled and will leak.
no Not all ways true I changed the Oil sending unit on My 1993 Chrysler lebaron convertible 3.0 Now it is still Leaking and it is not the oil filter the leak is above the oil filter. some where it is not from the engine block area !!! I replace valve cover Gaskets . and Oil sending unit. thank u . still coming from above the Filter and it is not th e filer.......
Well, first off would be to replace the faulty sending unit so that the oil pressure will stabilize. Second, if I'm reading this correctly that you have no oil in the oil filter at all? If not, your oil pump could be quitting or it did quit. It's recommended not to start the truck until it can be checked for oil pump operation. Have the valves been chattering badly? The only 3 things that would prevent oil from getting to the oil filter are a blocked passage, a failed oil pump or no oil in the motor at all. When the oil guage has that fluctuation is when the pump is going out or again the engine has no oil or a leak so massive that the guage can't hold a stable reading. Good luck
It common for the oil to leak there when your oil pressure sending unit has gone bad. It's a simple fix, locate the oil pressure sending unit (between the starter and oil filter are) and replace. Auto Zone will have the part you need and step by step instructions to get the job done, Napa, and Part Source will have the part also. Do not use Teflon tape when installing the new oil pressure sending unit, the end is tapered and it needs a good ground to the engine block to work properly.
Good luck and this should take you around 20 min to replace once your start when the engine has cooled off to work on.
The oil pressure sending unit screws into the engine block so you will need to look between the oil pan and the head.I suggest that you try tightening your oil filter first.
Last week my 2001 Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 was dropping below 10 and my "check gauges" light and chime came on. My sending unit was bad. I could see it was bad because oil was getting through the unit and leaking very slow. It's located above the oil filter. Easy fix, but the unit was over $50 and the 1 1/16 special deep socket for sending units was over $10.
is it an ex?
is it a bad leak?
it could be 2 things
1) oil pressure sending unit above the filter
2) "o" ring between the oil cooler and block on ex models only. the oil cooler is between the filter and block with 2 coolant hoses attached to it. also might be the oil filter. i replace alot of sending units and oil cooler o rings.
