Most of the time when rainy weather or dampness conditions.cars wont crank.its the ignition system is getting wet.or you have bad wires and a crack distributor cap.
You should never wash your engine. It can really mess with the computer sensors. However since you now have a problem in the rain, I'd change the wires, cap and rotor. (likely old and sensitive to humidity) Also, look at your ignition coil in the dark...if you see any spark or electrical "haze" where the coil wire goes in, change the coil.

Thanks for your help, I just changed the Rotor, distributor cap and wires. was wondering if there would be anything underneath the Jeep like the Crank sensor wires. kind of strange because all this stuff has been changed out.
Well I have a heater under the hood trying to dry everthing out, but for some reason I'm thinking something under neath the jeep is getting wet,
Trev thanks
Had the same problem Gunked the engine down and the Jeep would not start. Unscrewed the two screws on the distributer and removed the cap. It was very damp inside. Wiped the inside of the distributor dry with a shop rag, along with the rotor. Re-installed the cap and the Jeep fired up on the first try. Lesson learned....cover the distridutor next time before washing the motor.
