My car recently started shutting off while in idle or soon after the gas pedal is released. The problem usually occurs when it's cold out and the car has been sitting for more then a few hours. The car has always idled with a heavy shake in the winter but now seems to hardly rumble at all. It's when it has completely stopped that I know it's stalled again. Any ideas?

Check EGR valve this controls idle speed it might have carbon build up hold the valve open. All so check fuel pressure.

OPERATION
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the throttle body on. This valve allows air to bypass the throttle plate. The amount of air is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal.

Check your fuel vapor recovery system, your van has unusual set up, and the effect is RAW fuel gets purged, rather than vapor.
The dead giveaway test is does the issue happen on light acceleration? Does it stop if you let off the throttle? Can you accelerate harder and "get past" the issue?
